I was in Holland watching in 78. It was a lot like watching the way Spain took in from the German team, the way the Argies kept it away from Holland back then. That match turned nasty towards the end with the frustration Holland felt.

Will we see Spain "do it to them?" Again.

Too hard for me to choose who I want to win, just the best team I guess.

Thats about where I am, but if Torres doesn't start a think I'll lean toward the Dutch.

Well Paul (The octopus) has spoken. He's predicted that Spain will win the final and Germany will win their game for third place.

Hey the mighty mollusc hasn't been wrong yet, time to call your bookie...!

  4. Yes, he was in the Euro 2008 Final. Then he also predicted al matches for Germany right except the Final.
So if he is consistent then you know what to place your bets on.:)

I suppose we have to do, or say something. The only place it's really decided though, is on the pitch.

In between painting the front of the daylight basement and holding open houses from 1-4 today and tomorrow my time is going to be a little strained. Going to have to put my trust in the DVR. I learned early on that the muliple recording is definately unreliable, one match at a time. I'll probably be able to watch most of the first half live and catch the rest later.

Normally I wouldn't worry about someone telling me the score, this is a pointyball town but with the interest the WC has generated, I'm not sure. Headline like The Brazilian captain strangled his girlfriend and ate her!!! Reinforces the 'fact' the sawker players are foreign and 'different'..

    Looking forward to both matches.

Are you saying that Paul the Mighty Octopus does not know his football?

If anything, it's the teams involved in the 2008 final that are to blame for doing it wrong...

    Pssshhh...

Getting ready for the third place game. 8 years ago there were only two bars showing the games and ofcourse they were at odd hours. 4 years ago here there were four or five places to go and they filled up. Now every bar in town has a poster saying they have the World Cup matches. So yeah it's hard to avoid results.

Good, entertaining match wasn't it? I don't get that "fist in the stomach" feeling when I don't have a dog in the show either. Mistakes almost cost Germany the match but they made it.

And Forlan is practicing getting his free kicks 8" lower.

Glad that the final isn't played on that pitch but the altitude will make those free kicks harder to keep down.

I used to live and play footie and tennis at 7,000 feet, one does get used to it and learns how to get it down. Lottsa topspin.

My first WC cup in town here, I had to sit in a corner of the bar with the sound off, by myself, with people looking over at me like I had horns.

Forlan looks to be at the peak of his form.

He had a great World Cup.

    Fun to watch too.

Uruguay can not be disappointed about their World Cup performance. They punched above their weight to make it to 4th.

Forlan beat us almost by himself in that eufa semi-final also, and repeated the trick in the final. You have to admire a guy who takes manc money, grossly underperforms, then moves on and proceeds to go from strength to strength. Thats a quality i can really get behind.

Hes still no Paul though. :D

Pedro starts upfront with Villa for Spain against Holland.

I hope Holland stuff Spain now and the Villa/Pedro partnership fails. Torres losing his place in the Spanish team to a Barca partnership would be an absolute disaster for us.

I can see Pedro givng on touch passes to Villa every chance he gets. I'll bet he got slapped over the head more than once after the last match.

Perhaps being dropped from the Nat team would be good for us. Might keep the wolves away from the door.

My concern if I were Dutch (and I'm not :)) is wondering when Van Bommel is going to get done for GBH. So far the refs have been nice to him. Wouldn't wan't a red card in the final.

And talking about the final, my TV becons...

Show Webb some respect. He's likely to be the last English man in a long time to be on the pitch in a world cup final.:(

I think Webb has done a fine job so far, actually. Maybe he should have given a red for the De Jong foul, but I doubt that many other referees would have either.
