I'm not too worried... a lot of young players in this game. We are still missing a few of our starters, so you really can't judge on preseason games.

I think it is a little early to start hand wringing. If you looked at the rosters for the teams, it shows that the result was secondary, seeing different player combinations was first. With all the changes, I won't start to sweat until May. Let's be honest, most often strong preseasons haven't been our friend.

The Fire basically put what could be their starting defense out there for 2/3 of the game (not a bad idea, since they have to adjust to Bocanegra's absence; apologies to CJ). We ... did not. Ziadie played ... and other than that, we didn't play anyone on defense or up front who is likely to start on opening day.

I would love to actually see these guys. ASAP.

MetroStars First Half Lineup: GK – Zach Wells (Steve Reese 41’); D – Craig Ziadie (Chris Leitch 41’), Jeff Parke (Richard Culbertson 41’), Seth Stammler (Donizete 41’), David Hayes (Edgar Bartolomeu 41’); M – Amado Guevara (Torres 41’), Michael Bradley (Johnny David 41’), Tim Regan (Neto 41’), Joey DiGiamarino (David Dolidze 41’); F – Mike Nugent (Renato 41’), Peter Ofori-Quaye (OlivierOccean 41’).

So by my count we played two starters (Guevara, Ziadie) and one occasional starter (DiGi) in the first half, and two occasional starters (Leitch, Edgar) in the second. The Fire, on the other hand, played Curtin, Gray, Whitfield, Andy Williams, Mapp, and Jaqua in the first half.

Nobody for us got hurt? Then no concerns from me.

I dunno, based on the vast amount of video I've watched of our new players and invitees, I'm a bit surprised by the result. I thought Neto and Renato would expose the Fire defenders in the second half and I thought Stammler would have a greater impact on the game. David Dolidze should have done better based on his InterToto Cup experience with WIT Georgia and Donizete, what can I say other than "not living up to expectations."

    This is bad, bad, bad.

The guys you mentioned have played together for how long? Christ, let the team gel a bit.

If Metro fans were in charge of World War II, we would have surrendered unconditionally at Guadalcanal. It's two months to opening kick. Let pre-season be what it's meant to be, which is to sift through the new talent and make personnel and positioning decisions. It's not about getting results.
