I'm amazed they manage to keep this so hush-hush. It almost close to impossible to keep these kinds of things from the press, especially when it's to do with someone like Cristiano Ronaldo.

Yeah, my mom flew with him on Saturday from Lisbon to NYC. She said that he "is much more polite than she had expected" but it "was a little hard to make conversation since they had little in common". I still can't believe she sat next to him. Unreal.

Are you crazy?! Of course. That's why she noticed him. Believe it or not she didn't know who he was (!!) until she noticed he was getting mobbed with attention. Then, she looked at this belt buckle or something and it said "CR7". Finally, she leaned over and asked him _if_ he was Ronaldo... IF?!?! ROFL!! She told me that she deduced "7" must be the number on his jersey! AHAHAH. He must have thought she was from another planet not to have known who he was... She did tell him that her grandson (my son) has a Ronaldo shirt, so they did have something to talk about, I guess. Unfortunately, she didn't ask for an autograph (other people did, and he obliged them without a problem). I still can't believe it. She told me this information, btw, after talking about something else altogether for like 30 minutes. "Yeah, grandparents are so-so. X, Y and Z are doing well. They ask about you." And, then - "Oh, by the way, do you know who I sat next to on the plane...?". !!!

In 03' I was leaving Lisboa for NYC as well, and while waiting in checkout line my mom goes "Isn't that Simao's wife?". Being the gossiping Portuguese lady that she is my mom WOULD know what a player's wife looks like (from Maria magazines and so forth) rather than what the actual player looks like. It was Simao's wife, and Simao was there as well. I got a picture with him, and he signed my NT jersey and my Benfica X Lazio tickets that I'd seen him suck ass at two nights before. Real nice guy, though.
