I'm sure somebody does. I mean, they aren't doing them for no one. The World Wrestling Championships are coming up in September. I care. I know other people that care. So it's not that "no one" cares. It's that you don't. That doesn't mean the other competitions don't matter. They are still world championships and deserve some measure of respect. The word "nobody" should be automatically banned from any discussion like this. This is why these stupid, inane, immature discussions are so tiresome. Everything turns into a pissing contest, which then turns into false justification to try and prove that the interests and passions of a soccer fan are more important than anything else. God forbid anyone say anything bad about soccer - and I have fallen into the trap of spending too much time bitching about some people who do - but the first ********ing instinct is to belittle and marginalize any other sport or competition that anyone tries to reference. And all of this chest puffing about the World Cup in a thread on MLS ratings. Christ on a bike.
Thank you Monster. @Brodie--I'm sure you'd care about the FIBA World Championships if we dominated them. It's kind of ironic not caring about the world governing body of basketball's championship.
I have no idea who wins the FIBA World Championships, just like 99% of basketball fans in this country. For all I know, we do dominate it.
I never have, why start now? Of course, that's not what I meant, nor really makes sense as a reponse to what I posted. If we cared, we'd dominate. Do you seriously disagree with that?
Americans dont care about the world cup. So it doesnt matter. Im sure if the american players cared about it, we'd dominate it. After all, "If we cared, we'd dominate. Do you seriously disagree with that?" Or, to copy and paste directly: "I have no idea who wins the FIFA World CUP, just like 99% of soccer fans in this country. For all I know, we do dominate it" "I have no idea who wins the FIBA World Championships, just like 99% of basketball fans in this country. For all I know, we do dominate it." "I have no idea who wins the World Baseball Classic, just like 99% of baseball fans in this country. For all I know, we do dominate it." "I have no idea who wins the Ice Hockey Championships, just like 99% of hockey fans in this country. For all I know, we do dominate it." We can do this all day. I find that europeans pull out the same excuse when a south american team wins the CWC. "I have no idea who wins the Club World Cup, just like 99% of soccer fans in this continent. For all I know, we do dominate it." In fact, this may work with EVERY subject! Math. Skyscrapers. Mass transit. Science. The formula is simple: I don't care, thus none of my countrymen care. But if I cared, and my countrymen cared, we'd dominate, because this is america damnit, and we're the best at absolutely everything. Why? Because my 1st grade teacher said so.
The formula is only simple if every sport is exactly alike in popularity and proportion of national resources available. But they aren't, so it isn't.
Wow, this number is great... 0.3= 441,000 viewers From Sports media watch. Sports Media Watch I still can't find the number from 7/01/2010 though..
That is his prediction bro, not an official number. cable ratings are not even released until 2pm eastern today in any capacity to any media outlet... unless it comes from the source... and a 0.3 flat US rating = about 345K HH not viewers.....
Wow! Thats nice! There was no better time for first time viewers to witness such great goal as the one from Juninho.
That is not a rating..... the 441K number he made up. the 0.3 is a prediction from the blogger who hosts the site.
the ratings for last nights game might not be all that good. Many people on the west coast were out watching fireworks shows at the same time as the game.
Well, duh. You schedule a soccer game that is during fireworks shows and 4th of July BBQs for most of the country, what do you think is going to happen?
You may not see the ratings for this game for a few days if ever...MLS ratings are pretty obscure....getting ratings for NBA, NHL, and MLB reg season games are not that easy...overtime a season average is always out there...but induvidual games are not always assessable...MLS games do not carry much weight in terms of interest of tv ratings....odds are the Network(espn won't push it out there unless it was a big rating for what they deem a big rating...) Sports Business Journal may have it tomorrow...but it wasn't on broadcast so it may not be leaked at all...I can try to email a couple guys to get it..but with the holiday that won't happen today. Since people in the business want to see if there is a post WC bump this game probably will be out there by Thursday... if the game did extremely well..ESPN would of leaked it. There is also nothing for the game before it....probably wen't back into the 200-250K range...I promise to email two guys I know that may be able to get it now..but it's not like I am some priority to them..just a guy.
How do you get Deportes, not ESPN2? I thought they had nearly full penetration for ESPN2 except for institutional (hotels, etc.). Just curious - I would think that a provider would make it almost impossible for someone to get a Spanish-language package without having a tier that includes 2.
I am with Direct TV. I get the spanish tier because of the additional soccer channels but for some reason it does not include ESPN2. I get ESPNClassic but not ESPN2. They used to include ESPN2 but not anymore. Well at least I get FSC. I also believe that we have a sports tier but it does not include ESPN2 either although it has GOLTV in English and FSC.
Are you sure? I'm pretty sure that DTV has ESPN2 in every package they offer. Turn on channel 209 right now, and tell me what you see.
Has there been any attempt to calculate how people watching in bars and restaurants were added into the ratings? From the bleacher report article one stat did jump out: "Another interesting fact: the median age range for the World Cup television viewers is 39, significantly lower than the median age of 52 for the Olympics." One of the many reasons why I think soccer may not suffer from the Olympic Gymnastics effect as many seem to think. Oh sure, there were a lot of people simply caught up in the spectacle and patriotism/nationalism thing, but I don't think the interest from many will simply die until Brazil 2014.
