That's a lot of reading and re-reading, break it down in a nutshell as to why he is a "pug" and not worthy.

I think he _might_ be a good squad player, but we don't need a good squad player.

LFC only needs David Villa. play him w/ Torres, who won't score, but Villa will score two goals a match.

    priceless.

Just a few thoughts on players we're linked with...

Gervinho - I would absolutely love to sign this dude. If Drogba had been healthy during this WC, I really think Gervinho would be a name linked with everyone, because Cote d'Ivoire would have gotten a lot more attention and probably gone through to the knockout round. He's a tricky player with good speed and would be an instant upgrade on either wing (God bless you, Dirk). From what I can tell, he's a no-fuss player who puts his head down and works hard for the team. Looks to be a good finisher and sets his teammates up well. The thought of him playing alongside Torres in our 4-2-3-1 is salivating.

Turan - Nothing really to add here. Sign this kid up, whatever it takes. He loves Liverpool and is by all accounts a class player. Seeing him in the pre-WC matches, you have to love the prospect of him coming to LFC.

Riera - ok, not a target, but it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that he'd be gone, since his fallout with Rafa. I know there are those out there who'd pay his bus fare to get him the eff out, but I think that's a bit short-sighted. I honestly think a lot of our problems last season had to do with Riera's injuries and eventual suspension. He was very good for us on the left the previous season, despite it being his first year with us. He holds the ball so well and is probably our best dribbler. He puts in a great cross and links up with Insua very well. We're not going to get a player of his caliber for the amount that we'd sell him for, so I really don't see the point, unless he truly is a cancer in the locker room. Personally, I chalk that one up to Benitez lack of man management. If properly motivated, I think Albert can go back to doing great things for the club.

Mascherano - I'm at the point where I actually want him to leave, assuming we can use his transfer fee to bring in new players. El Jefecito is clearly one of the best in the world at his position, but he was pretty abysmal last year and his head is not in the right place. He was a Rafa disciple (and rightly so) who expressed discontent with his living situation in England. He's incredibly valuable in Champions League games, but less so in the Premiership. I think we can all agree that our focus right now is the Premier League and qualifying for CL next year, rather than the Europa Cup. Lucas, despite all his naysayers, can be almost as useful in terms of breaking up the opposition's attack, and he's better in possession. I really think this season is where Lucas comes of age (whether that's at Liverpool or Inter remains to be seen).

    This.

Let's sell Babel. Keep Riera and Kuyt. Sign Turan and Gervinho.

Turan and Gervinho will both be cheaper than Ashley Young too.

All four players (Riera, Kuyt, Turan, and Gervinho) are capable of effective play on both wings.

Just now i scrolled through the newsnow liverpool feed and i realized that it was all lies, the whole thing. The entire news feed was bullshit. It boggles the mind.

It was a moment of pure clarity though, becouse the noise was so loud you couldnt hear it any more.

Im just gonna listen to what Uncle Roy says for now. RBS/Her Majesty too. :D

Real Madrid are reportedly set to launch a bid for Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and they will offer the club in excess of £30m plus either Rafael van der Vaart or Fernando Gago. With such a large offer would the club be making the right move in accepting the bid?

30m plus VDV and you have a deal

I certainly am not in favor of selling Gerrard but if a transfer is agreed and I were Hodgson I would push for the cash (30 mill.) plus both VdV and Gago.

If the name isn't kwadwo asamoah, i've had my fill african 'stars' at liverpool. after world cup '02 we signed two bad players in diouf and diao, when another african star was searching for a move (Eto'o) and we didn't want to pay the 12m for him.

I don't want to sell Gerrard or Mascherano, but...

I would take Gago ahead of VdV. Then you push Aquilani into a role more suitable for his skill.

    Reina
    Johnson - - Carragher - - Agger - - Insua
    Gago - - Lucas
    Kuyt - - - Aquilani - - - Riera
    Torres

And if we sell both Mascherano and Gerrard we should have the funds to improve at least 2 positions significantly. We can seriously (not just rumors and hopes) go after the likes of Young, Turan, Joe Cole, Ziegler, Gilberto Silva, etc, etc etc (the many we have been linked too). Whoever you fancy.

I don't want to sell Gerrard though. Selling Mascherano is going to happen, but selling Gerrard as well would make Torres want to leave ASAP.

I just don't see Hodgson selling Gerrard. It would wildly unpopular with the fans and would he even be guaranteed the ability to spend the money?

If Gerrard forces the move, or if it's pushed by the board/ownership, then he could go. But I don't see it happening, even for 30M + Real table scraps.

I don't think Torres would want to leave if Hodcarrier signed Young or Turan and pulled in VDV and a quality fullback.

    Possibly.

We shouldn't have to sell Gerrard though.

If Hodgson is given the £15 M that is being reported. Benayoun's transfer isn't added to that because it is used for the transferring of the managers (paying off Rafa and paying off Fulham).

Add £24 M that is the reported deal for Mascherano to Barca/Inter.

That's £39 M. Surely that is enough for Turan/Young and another really good player. Or enough for Turan/Young and 2 good squad players.

No matter which way it goes it will be interesting to see which way Hodgson takes the rebuilding...He has said he is going to give all players a chance to show him something. Which I disagree with, but oh well.

It will be interesting to see who he is actually targeting and who he brings in.

if LFC dredges Baptista out of the swamp he's in, i might consider a species change operation...

...for me, not for him, though he could use one.

Taylor? Hodgson's friends in the press are not helping clear the nagging impression that he has not got a clue, are they? I hope he has more sense than that, though.
