I've been searching for answers and even called up the Red Bull number printed on the ticket I just bought, but can't find the answers to a couple of fairly simple questions.

I'm going to the game on June 5th and I just want to know what the rules are in regard to what you can bring into the stadium. I remember days when you could carry a big-ass backpack into Yankee Stadium and they'd just touch it mildly on the sides a little at the gate and then let you in anyway. Now, you can't even take in umbrellas on an overcast day for crying out loud.

Since I'll be coming in by public transport, I won't be able to drop something in the car if I have to, so I really need to know what the rules are. If I bring anything, it won't be more than a modest-sized backpack so I can have something to read on the way there and back and for my Bose headphones case.

Also (although I can find this out myself easily) how do I get there with public transport? As far as I know, I'll do what I did when I went out to Giants Stadium and just look for the people with soccer jerseys roaming around and ask someone where the bus tickets are being sold. However, I've heard that there is a PATH train that goes there, too.

Not addressing this just at you, but I've never understood why people come on BS asking questions like this, apparently without checking with official sources. All of your answers are on the RBNY websites.

    NYRB Official site: http://www.newyorkredbulls.com/
    RedBull Arena: http://www.redbullarena.us/

Anyway, here is the policy page: http://www.redbullarena.us/arena/stadium_policies.aspx.
You can bring a 12x12 backpack, but I've seen some that are larger. Just be prepared to open it at the bag search. There are also links to to the transportation options on the RBA site.

I take it your coming from NYC, in which case the WTC PATH is the best option. It's a tossup between the PATH and NJTransit train if your coming from midtown.

I come from Queens like you. I take the LIRR to Penn, walk down the block and take the PATH from 33rd to Journal Square, then transfer to the Newark bound PATH and take it one stop to Harrison.

I used to have something like that a long time ago, like Kwai Chang Caine. It would have done nicely but I'm just going to play it safe and show up with nothing but my ticket. (And a pair of jeans, of course!)

I also have a question about Red Bull Arena. I am probably coming up for the Man City-NYRC and Spurs-Sporting matches on July 25. What is the neighborhood around the arena like? Is it a good part of town? Or is it not safe to go outside at night?

I think I would be staying in a hotel nearby to eliminate the public transport hassles. I just know here in Atlanta the Braves stadium is in the worst section of town.

Thanks for your help, I can't wait to see the new stadium

I've only been there one time, so others may have better answers than me. I didn't notice much of a neighborhood. It's like an industrial area with a lot of factories. But then I just kept to the route that led to the stadium so I didn't have a chance to see the town, though. I've heard there's a lot of good Portugese restaurants in the area, so what do I know.

Even if it's a bad neighborhood, I'm sure there's enough security on game day to be safe, not to mention with tens of thousands of people moving around, there's safety in numbers. But I didn't get any impression that it was a dangerous, crime-ridden place.

Im not from the area but Im at every game and the only parts of the area Ive been to are the 2 blocks in between the stadium and the train. Think of a Yankee Stadium type situation I guess. The immediate area isnt the greatest but over the bridge towards Newark there are some nice places to eat and drink before and after the game.

All you need to do is get off at Newark Penn Station instead of Harrison. Take a walk down market street and you will be in heaven. Portuguese, Brazillian restaurants, pubs and a ton of local traditions. It's a safe part of town, and it's a nice walk down to the stadium.
