Henry has been let out of his contract at Barca. As we have all said before, this is a done deal, but just further confirmation he is on the move. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_6236425,00.html
I expect him to have an effect similiar to Blanco locally and much more league wide..but no where near becks. probably a tick up in tv ratings as well
The Galaxy started to take off before Beckham's return on July 11, 2009 for the Galaxy-NYRB game. LA had a 3-game winning streak going into that game. Overall record at that time: 5 wins, 3 losses and 9 draws.
As long as there's enough butts in seats to cover up the Red Bull logo on the sideline seats, I'll count Henry as a stunning success.
Sorry to burst everyones bubbles... Backe admits pursuit of unnamed "No. 10" is over MLssoccer.com I just wonder who does Backe means by the No.10 that the club lost.
It wasn't Henry. The best guess is that it was Ballack since he just signed for his former team in Germany and he fits all the criteria Backe put forth in an article last week.
Since when? 9/10 are usually strikers and 11 is usually a midfielder. Not that I'm denying that the Henry deal is done, which it is, but 10 has been a striker's number for ages.
Backe specifically said he was a true #10, a playmaker. Henry is many things, but he is not a true #10. He also said he was European, so that rules out Ze Roberto like someone else was suggesting.
Not necessarily. They made an earlier offer for Ze Roberto, but he decided to stay at Hamburg. Within the last week or so another offer was made and it looks like it might have been for Ballack. 1. Backe said they were in negotiations with a well known European player who was out of contract and a #10. 2. Ballack just signed with Leverkusen 3. Dyer reported yesterday that Backe said their target had just turned them down 4. Leverkusen's coach said yesterday that Ballack had rejected a much more lucrative offer to sign there So while that isn't proof that it was Ballack that they made the offer to, there is at least circumstantial evidence that points that way.
And they finished 12 - 6 - 12 ..... so that means they went 7 - 3 - 3 after Beckham got back. 17 games without him, 22 pts. 13 games with him, 24pts. From 3rd to 1st in the West after his arrival. They scored 2 or more goals in 6 of the 13 games he was there, as opposed to 4 in the 17 without him. Yeah, after he got back they really took off.
And this year without him they're off to one of the best starts in the History of MLS, 14 games without beck == 33 points.
Excuse me while I get all CSI but check out this promo from MSG Network. Black guy, plays on the left, and (judging from the logo on the shorts and the ball) played in Champions League about 4 years ago with Arsenal. Is this what passes for subtle these days?
