Among fans along here, most fans are happy with Korea and Japan's success, including Japanese happy for the koreans and vice versa. Some Korean supporters even admitted to hoping the JNT would do badly coming into teh world cup and hoping they didn't make the knockout rounds, but some were won over by the 3-1 against Denmark which is nice.

People who do not support other asian sides in the world cup are just those sheep who fail to understand how their own country's future is influenced by other asian team results. So yes, i'm happy korea made R16, happy Australia did some good work in getting 4 pts. Unfortunate about North Korea, but happy Jong Tese made an impression on the world he is an amazingly talented striker as J.League followers will know.

Honestly, I don't really believe that African supporters are all united.

Erm, I think Asians do support other nations. Japanese are more prone to support their fellow neighbours, not sure about Korea, but Park Ji Sung said he'd like to see Japan advance to the Round of 16 and that's saying a lot. There are some koreans such as what Aki said, that have come to respect Japan after their win against Denmark.
I wanted Australia to advance, but the deficit was too much for them to come back, but they won the against Serbia impressively. So Kudos to them. They deserved to go through not Ghana.
As for what Aki said, other people that do not support asian sides are just a bunch of glory hunters and sheep.
And I wouldn't be surprised if a majority of Chinese people don't support Korea, Japan , Australia...and other asian teams.

Yeah, at least on BS I think that the Asian supporters are the most united of all the confederations when it comes to the WC. Kinda ironic when you see all the fighting that goes on between Korean, Japan, Iran, Aussie, Saudi posters normally.

But at the end of the day we all want to see AFC have plenty of WC spots, have a strong Asian Cup and Asian Champions League, and have the rest of the world take Asian football seriously.

Well i was definitely supporting the Asian countries and wanted them to do well.

I even feel bad now that South Korea are gone since i felt they could/should of beaten Uruguay but shit happens.

Like - I really do not see why someone shouldn't support fellow Asian countries? The results all bode well for the region as a whole. I don't understand why someone would have an inferiority complex to the point that they would want AFC countries to fail at the World Cup. World Cup success from any country benefits everyone in AFC.

    So mon Japan!

Yea, even in 2006 when Japan bitterly folded to Australia in the final minutes... I felt gutted for Australia when they got screwed over by Italian theater in the R16.

I was and have always been supporting all Asian teams in the World Cup. I was very excited when Korea scored against Uruguay and felt pretty bad when they lost today. Right now all I want to see is Japan in the final. I seriously think they have what it takes.

When asian teams do well we all benefit. When they do poorly the world looks down on all of us.

I support all Asian teams including China, Iran, KSA, and Australia except Japan. I do have Japanese friends who I really like and care for but I just can't cheer for its sports teams. But I do admit that my heart's melting. I had really weird feeling watching Denmark-Japan game. I was supporting Denmark going in then I really liked Japan when Endo scored. Then I hated it when Honda made it 3-1. I guess I don't like Honda.

Now I really can't figure out my feelings waiting for Japan-Paraguay. It's definitely not neutral. Confused.. A formal, sincere apology (btw, there are dozen levels of apology in east asia) from Japanese king would help along with demolition of Yasukuni. Oh and if they can return our treasures they stole from us... Then I can probably cheer for Japan.

dude, seriously poor form. I knew at some point that this particular thread was going to reach this particular argument. We were all thinking it, but the preceding posters before the above quoted didn't mention it.

    Everybody listen to this man.

If you don't wanna support other Asian countries because of political stuff then that's your prerogative, but this is not the forum for a detailed discussion on the rights and wrongs of history. I will be ruthless in keeping this thread on-topic.

I've always rooted for all Asian teams. I also feel that Asia is under represented at the WC, but I guess that topic has been adequately addressed in the other threads.

Yea right. I am ethnically Bangladeshi, and everytime I go to Dhaka and Kolkata during WC times, they always have flags of Brazil and Argentina.

That's true. But that doesn't negate what Mastersk3 has said. Brazil and Argentina are cheered for because of their style of play. Every kid wants to play like a Brazilian or an Argentine. But when Asian sides play non Asian sides, you'd find a lot of support for the Asian teams. It may not manifest itself in the form of waving the flags or buying the jerseys of the Asian teams, but its support nevertheless.

Considering there are vastly different cultures, religious views and plenty of bad past history in this region the support towards each other in this WC seems pretty good imo.
