The problem if we go with Arena is that we don't learn anything new about the US program or its national players going this direction. We've kind of been there and done that with him. For the 2018 cup? Yeah, he'd be on my list of potential candidates. But I think we need to go with a coach without strong ties to Arena at this point.
A coach that knows the US players and is a foreigner that can make teams with not that much talent?????? Mmmmmmmmmm 4 words Carlos de Los Cobos I think he us the perfect coach fir you guys. I think the US should step away from the Eurocentric mindframe and embrace a coach that values skill and technique. The US has the speed and strenght now you just need the technical ability to play a possesion game. Other coaches: Peckerman Scolari Bielsa
Interesting idea- but it only works with players who are already possess technical skill. Beyond 12-13 years of age coaches can't reinvent players' skill sets. All they can do is help nurture and refine what's already there. To be sure, we have a few technical players here and there, but we still have too many who have real technical deficiencies. The solution is more long term. The USSF's hiring of Claudio Reyna as youth technical director is a step in the right direction. Hopefully, over the next generation of youth players some truly skilled and creative players will emerge.
All i know BB should not return and I would not be shocked to see Klinnsman take the job I think he wants it. Also would be good if we did go after S.American coach.
Perhaps I am in the minority here, but I thought Bradley did a hell of a job and I would be proud for him to remain as coach. Let the flaming begin!
He did do well made mistake here and there but I think it would be best for both parties to part ways.
I've always thought David Moyes & Roy Hodgson are a perfect fit for our NT, we just don't have enough dough to lure them away from their clubs. A poor man's version of Moyes/Roy would be nice.
PLEASE. No more American coaches. It's time to break up the buddy-buddy system here and get a nice, fresh, outside perspective as to how to really unlock the talent and potential of our players.
Roy would be an incredible coach for the USA-- he knows how to work with "lesser" talents and get the most out of a team that consistently punches above its (spending) weight. However, I wouldn't be surprised if England come calling for him next. Someone like him is what the USA need-- seasoned to the higher level of competition but experienced in winning without having the best XI players on the field.
I dont think you have to go outside the US to find someone who is a bit of an outsider. Nicol, Kinnear and Kreis all have very limited ties to the current cadre of USSF coaches.
Klinsmann is German and coached the German NT in 2006. He does live in LA though so he understands the American culture. Therefore, who better than Jurgen to coach the US for 2014?
Right...so that's why I said American coaches. I never ever mentioned Klinsmann in my post. Klinsmann, Peckerman, Gus Huddink, etc etc are the type of people I want us looking at.
Oh, when I said please, I meant please as in "yes please get Klinsmann". Maybe that's where the confusion in my post is coming from. Sorry.
We need someone who can keep the fighting spirit of these guys but also find some way to prepare them better for the first 15. A tall order. I'd love to see Moyes, I don't follow MLS enough to know beyond that. Klinsy makes me slightly nervous. With all the experienced youth we have, 2014 sets up really nicely. We need to get it right.
I don't want Bielsa. His teams are fantastic to watch, from a neutral point of view. If I was a fan, though, I'd have a heart attack every match. Not to mention we don't really have the kind of players he uses.
Kinnear if we go domestic. We really need someone that knows Concacaf, but if we go foreign then now would be a good time since we had a pretty good cup and look more appealing. I don't want Bob again, not because he did a bad job, but because we need to move forward with fresh ideas.
