Mexico has it very difficult but these opportunities are rare and if they get through this game and then the next, then that is greatness my friends. Anything could happen really. Mexico will need to give it their all that's for sure.

    Dear Santa Claus:

Thank you for paying close attention to my letter and having both France and Italy go out early, with no won matches and last in their groups. If I may be so bold, could you please let Maradona's team crash and burn on Sunday? If you are so kind and grant me that wish, I'll promise not to ask for anything else until the next World Cup.

    Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Li'l WorldCupRené

Another question and an interesting one at that. Why are they showing images of the crescent moon, during the Portugal v Brazil game, when in reality the moon is full???

This could well be the most entertaining match yet. There is no doubt who the favorite is, but Mexico is certainly capable of winning the match.

I think so too, Mexico's top 3 is extremley quick and when maradona plays 3 CB's back there they tend to get slow. I think Chicho should start over Franco due to the fact Franco tends to use his strength more and Chicho is quicker. I think it comes down to marquez playing smart and keeping messi on a leash when he leaks into the top of box in the midfield and starts ripping shots. KEEP HIM TO HIS RIGHT! Aguirre needs to call up Mourinho after maradona and ask how he shut down Messi.

Keep him on his right indeed my good man. Thats the key with Messi. Force him to his Right foot in every instance and have a 2nd man trailing to apply added pressure. If he does indeed beat you with his right foot, then so be it.

Mourinho doesn't have the power to transform Mexico's backline into Maicon-Lucio-Samuel-Zanetti.

Anyway according to media reports this might be Argentina's lineup which would mean Maradona is going very offensive.

    --------------Romero
    Otamendi-Demi-Samuel-Heinze
    -------------Mascherano
    ----Maxi-------------------DiMaria
    ---------------Messi
    ------Higuain--------Tevez

This could be their ondoing, as weird as it may sound. Being too attack minded has come to bite several teams in the rear over the years: Brazil in 1982, Denmark in 1986, Germany in 1994 come to mind.

As I said in the Argentine forum, it might appear more offensive it certain senses, but it's also a bit more defensive than our usual line-up: we're putting someone with CB-characteristics (Otamendi) for a very offensive defender (Jonas). Otamendi isn't going to go up nearly as much -if at all-, as Jonas Gutierrez does. On the left side you have Heinze, so in reality we wouldn't be playing with any wing-backs, but rather 4 center-backs. That's pretty defensive, considering how Argentina traditionally plays with 2 wing-backs who constantly move forward to attack.

How did these 2 get so lucky with such a long break between matches?

We'll probably have Conejo to blame too. its a definite possibility that the pos is going to let a easily stoppable shot slip past him.

Wouldn't you be pissed if Maradona took German Lux to the World Cup and started him in place of Romero even if Lux is rotting away on a bench somewhere and didn't help Argentina in qualifiers?

I expect this game to be one of the better ones of this whole tournament. It's tough luck for Mexico to get Argentina but if Argentina's back line doesn't make any blunders, it will be 2-0 for Argentina.

It's just hard to imagine this Argentine team with so much talent, cohesion, spirit, and of course Maradona would not win.

    I'm loving this

Otamendi and Heinze are very slow

Those two guy will be tested by Gio and Barrera. Both can play in either side.

The key for mexico will be to keep possession and limit the brain farts on the back line

Frustrate them and hit them with the counter

Heinze is slow, Otamendi is more or less but the entire point of this formation is that neither of them will be pushing up much so it's not like they're going to get caught higher up the field having then to chase Gio or Barrera back. As loco said it's essentially a formation with 4 CB's. They'll probably get tested but so will Mexico's fullbacks especially since both like to push forward.
