Pfft, no please dont insult him, by asking if he plays in that shitty league haha . He plays for Palermo in serie A. One of their best players and top scorers and one of the best young strikers in Serie A. A lot of interest in him by big clubs, and Man City ofcoarse with all their money.
There was a reason for that... Aguirre said before the World Cup that he had three captains: Marquez, Torrado and Blanco. This is why each match a different person has had the captain armband. That is the reason why Blanco started. Knowing how Blanco can react when promises are not kept, I think Aguirre felt forced to start him to keep the group united. Now you can call me crazy if you like, but I have this feeling Aguirre asked the defenders with card problems not to get themselves in foul trouble, which would obviously make the group tentative when playing defense, given that most of the defensive line had already a yellow card. In other words, the whole intention was to make it past the group stage with the ability to use all the starters in the next match. The defense in particular has a very significant drop off from the starters to the subs, so I see this being a very possible scenario. Now personally, I would have preferred to avoid Argentina altogether, but hey, if you want to be the best, you have to win those games that matter regardless of the rival, plus if Mexico pulls the upset, it will be a good way to get rid of all those ghosts that have haunted the team in relation to Argentina. In all honesty, I pity the team that plays Uruguay next... they have probably the most balanced team in the World Cup. I wonder who will have the ability to score against such a good defense. Congratulations Uruguay.
Aguirre's tactical f*ck ups aside, the team lacked urgency, which is rather strange given the circumstances of the game. Nothing to add other than congratulate our Uruguayan brothers, they played a great game and were fully prepared for Mexico. The game had 0-0 written all over it until Suarez scored. Congrats to South Africa as well for going out on a high note and good luck to all the teams that still have a chance.
Ordered by points acquired 1998:Netherlands, Mexico, Belgium, South Korea 2002:Mexico, Italy, Croatia, Ecuador 2006ortugal, Mexico, Angola, Iran You can hardly say those are "easy" groups and in 2002 Mexico had a harder group.
I think im confusing him with another Uruguayan player.i am sure Panathinakos or a AEK is on par with a Serie A team like Palermo. but I obviously don't know, and i was just wondering. He's a good player BTW
Congrats to Mexico and Uruguay!! Yayyy, I'm so nervous and excited! Mexico vs. Argentina games are always fun to watch
Actually, the individual confederations have control over who they choose to admit to membership and who they don't. By the way, the R16 match threads are up in the Knockout Rounds forum.
P.S. for those that are badmouthing Aguirre, he was the one that got Mexico into the world cup. Mexico wasn't doing too good with Senor Eriksson behind the wheel.
P.S. those badmouthing Aguirre are Mexico fans and they're well within their right to say whatever they want.
Ugh, so we're facing Argentina next? Like lambs to the slaughter. Ridiculous, let's hope they have at least a HINT of mercy on us.
I don't know... this could go in so many different directions... it could be a close victory for Argentina, if Mexico does a good job defending and our strikers (as usual) fail to capitalize on the opportunities they have. It could go against Argentina, if Mexico scores early and does a good job defending. Or it could be rout. Remember, this is the same team that had trouble in the qualifiers... I still do not trust their defense to be all that good... so far all the teams they played were mediocre to bad.
Dude, Uruguay won, and they deserved it, but Mexico would have deserved it too. I don't mean to talk bad about Uruguay, but they played dirty. They fouled Mexico numerous times inside Uruguay's penalty area, they held the players' shirts, pushed them and everything without the ref seeing it, or he just ignored it. I cannot say Mexico lost due to the ref, but I'll say it contributed. Nevertheless, good game, and good luck vs South Korea.
Mexico was initially invited by the South Americans to play Copa America when it started, had Mexico accepted, they would have been part of conmebol now
Uruguay played dirty, are you kidding me????? Try to take off your jersey once and a while and make an objective comment. By the way just be glad Uruguay was satisfied with the 1-0 win and didn't drop a couply of more goals on you or else it would be back to Mexico...............aye aye aye aye CANTA NO LLORES!!!!!!!
yeah, because Uruguay was controlling the game and could have scored more if it wanted to. Like I said, I don't mean to insult or diminish Uruguay, but they scored a good, somewhat lucky goal, but for the most part, they were defending, that was their game. They are good at it, but don't act as if Uruguay is this goal scoring machine. I wish they would have tried to go for the second, so they would have open up spaces in their defense, but it didn't happen.
imo game could have gone either way. whats really killing mexico is their inability to finish their scoring chances.
Uruguay kept attacking after the goal, and for the first 15 of the 2nd half, Uruguay was the only one attacking
Come on dude, don't go down the sore loser route. Uruguay is a defensively stout team by nature but they know how to manage games and the results back it up. Just because they don't push their lines up with every offensive possession like Mexico, doesn't mean they're bunkering and countering. This is how I saw the game as well although Uruguay's attacks had a bit more clarity. They certainly threatened our backline through out the game. Most international media sources say the same thing. Mexico plays attractive, flowing football but they can't finish. Story of our lives.
I think this is just another example (more evidence) that all those wins that Mexico racks up in the Copa America don't matter. When a south american team brings out all their players and really want to play, they are a notch above Mexico. Of course, it's a close gap. But they've yet to convince that they are big enough to win a truly important game against CONMEBOL or UEFA.
