I am happy that Finley can't play. Now the problem is do we start Dempsey up front with Altirore or Buddle or Gomez? Edu should start in place of Clark or Torres. I feel sorry for Torres I think the pressure was too much.
    my line up for Algeria

    Altidore.........Buddle

    Dempsey......Edu........Bradley........Donvan

    Spector......Bocanegra..... Demerit.......Chermundelo

    Howard.

this gives us the best chance of success. Also we need England to beat the hell out of Slovenia. I don't think the English will make the same mistakes we did :)

I wouldnt be surprised to see a 4-5-1 similar to what we saw in the second half of the Slovenia game really. Benny did alright, Edu and Gomez were both vital as well. I think you need speed/control up top with Jozy to make him effective, Buddle isnt too fast.

    you are the only one.

personally Edu should have gotten the starts regardless due to his performance against Czech. But i think Bob will be forced to play Edu after today. Him and Bradley play too well to ignore

This is an important point. Edu and Mikey do work well together, and I think that we need to take advantage of it.

You underestimate Bob's ability to ignore the obvious. Nothing would surprise me at this point.

there no offense from this...just str8 out defense..i for one do not discount clark b/c he has the experience and touch while edu lacks in both...i'd be fine with dempsey up top with torres/feilhaber on the left...more offense and good enough D...i think holden would do well on the flank..too many options not good enough:confused:

Does anyone think Beasley could step in at RM? Put Donovan up top to fill Findley's "speedy role." Donovan has not been too threatening one-on-one, but he does bring some composure and vision to the midfield. It's hard to say, but I think with Dempsey and Beasley out wide, Donovan and Altidore up top would be best.

Wouldn't mind seeing Buddle getting a run out either, could get some LAG chemistry going with Landon, but that looks unlikely.

its amazin how many decent difference makers we have on the bench...beasley holden spector(on a good day) torres gomez feilhaber edu torres...i think bob might be forgetting about holden..a huge part of qualifying for us

i don't like it. edu helped us somewhat going forward but is hit or miss, and looked out of position on counterattacks and that's the last thing we can afford. our D has been incredibly shaky. no matter how many times they make the same mistake, they are caught EVERY GAME ballwatching while a man runs free-- they aren't quick enough to close down angles and cover for each other, and only get their heads out of their asses after we go down.

i honestly think we need to do a better job of controlling the midfield, period. for most of the past two games we have not put together the kind of passing we are capable of, and our defense shows none of the perseverance and intensity that helped us so much in the confederations cup.

i understand the philosophy of having donovan and dempsey out wide with the ability to cut in, but i don't think we can afford to strand our best attacking talent in donovan out on the wing to receive the ball-- but more importantly, we need him in a central role to disrupt the opponent's counters. donovan is good at closing angles and shaping the defense so that we don't get into those messy situations in the first place. holden is a good replacement at wing and if dempsey is comfortable on either side, i say we start dempsey and holden wide, donovan at CAM and bradley as a DM who can actually make some attack-minded passes.

my preference is for buddle and altidore up top. the ref did us a favor by getting findley suspended. i don't know how everyone got addicted to the notion that we MUST have speed on the pitch, nor who is seeing findley's speed in action. has he turned the corner on a defender to get a cross in ONCE in this cup? with our best talent out wide anyway, i think we have more success with two strong forwards who can hold the ball, distribute, and finish. buddle is dangerous and would pair well with altidore and donovan centrally.

    -----------------altidore-----buddle------

    ------------------------LD------------

    dempsey------------------------------------holden

    ---------------------baby bradley--------

    boca-------------gooch-----jay---------cherundolo

    ----------------------mr. angry-----------------

i worry about onyewu too, but despite his iffy positioning/recovery ability on some plays, his vision and ability to organize the D can't be replaced by anyone right now. the available replacements are too accident prone to be used for an entire match.

We won't do a diamond in the midfield. Bradley isn't disciplined enough to play the sold CDM.

I do agree over Edu though. He looked pretty crap before the goal. But maybe there's something to be said for the few good glimpses he did show. I guess we'll see Wednesday.
