Forlan just became my favorite player in this WC. First, he killed off my 200+ minute goal scoring drought where I didn't see hardly a chance let alone a goal. More importantly he twice made all the Vuvu's STFU for almost 20 seconds each time!

Striker Shaun Bartlett says CAP should have used two strikers. Shock.

Great play by Suarez on the third -- lovliest of touches after a slightly flippy floppy day. But he was a constant threat and probably should have been rewarded with a goal of his own.

Depending on results, I wonder if this will blunt the URU/MEX match -- I was kind of counting on that one to be even more wide open than this one.

I feel sorry for the South African goalie. Suarez was offside and even if he hadn't been, a red card seems a bit harsh. The ball was gone, Suarez wouldn't have scored anyway.

But kudos to Forlan and his Urus. Well played and a deserved win. I see them advance to the next round and I think they can finish first in this group.

Have to admit it was great seeing a more open game. Teams came to win rather than not lose. Good on them! Hope it continues.

If Mexico beats France tomorrow, what are the odds URU/MEX ends 0-0?

I doubt if the ball will ever get outside the center circle in that scenario.

I see it now, the seats were sky-blue coloured, it all makes sense now.

Yeah, because i bet potentially, they're both so willing to play against us.

They need retroactive red cards given out for simulation. Suarez was barely touched and he went down like he was shot in the back. Disgraceful. This crap needs to be dealt with and Fifa has failed again. There's no way you'd see someone do that if they knew they'd miss the next match in a WC.

the runner up most likely gets Argentina in the 2nd round while group winner gets Nigeria/S.Korea so I think the race for 1st place will still be on. ;)

Yeah, he was offside. I think he wouldn't have gone to ground had his touch not been heavy. He realized the ball was gone and made a meal of it. Uruguay easily deserved the win though.

Uruguay has several very good youth players. I think they can make a deep run for 2014. It'd be ironic if they defeated Brazil in the final.

Now that I've seen the replay, first off, when it deflected off the Uruguayan player, I think Suarez was offside. I don't know if in fact that IS offside 'cause it was only a deflection, but he was off when it deflected off his teammate. Second, his touch was away from the goal and I don't think it was a DOGSO when he was fouled. I don't think he could have gotten to the ball before a RSA defender. I do think he was fouled; his boot was clipped, so it should have been a PK, but I don't think it should have been a DOGSO.

Just rewound to the PK, and watched in super slo-mo. Suarez was definitely onside when the ball was played through. It was a totally legit call, even though he certainly embellished it as if he had been shot.

Anytime the keeper rushes out with two feet and initiates contact (any contact) then the forward is wise to dive in that scenario. Valid PK even with the embellishment by Suarez.

RSA keeper shouldn't have dove with both legs spread. If a defender had done (even with a faint touch) he'd be off. The same applies to keepers.

no but after he shot it deflected off a Uruguayan player to Suarez and Suarez was just offside when the ball was deflected...

It was a completely legit PK and a completely legit red card. Suarez dove all over the place, and embellished the foul, but there was definitely contact inside the box, and the keeper denied a goal scoring opportunity.
