I have to confess myself a little torn. I am Northern Irish, and grew up supporting England at World Cup finals. Hwoever, I am a Fulham fan, and I have to say, one of my greatest footballing moments ever was at Craven Cottage this year, and Clint Dempsey lobbed the Juve goalie to complete an amazing Europa League comeback. I couldn't quite believe what I was watching. The palce went ballistic.

So, I think I'd be happy if USA won tonight, Clint scored the winner, and then England went on to win the World Cup.

I know, too much to ask.

Anything other than an England victory would though be seen here as a major failure. A defeat would be our worst World Cup finals result since 1950.

Come on USA,no one gives you a chance. The English team are expected to win,if they lose or draw the media in England will go nuts, that brings pressure. If Rooney(he is a class act, never stops running) plays well it will be tough but with some luck and hard graft the US can get a point.USA USA USA USA you can bring much joy to Scotland tonight (How sad am I? My only joy at this WC is to hope someone else fails, a sad reflection of the state of Scottish Football and our failure to qualify...again)

    The English are overconfident.

    1-1 draw.

...and that's why England will lose.

    Pride cometh before a fall.

Well we'll see. But surely the fact that England have not lost to a team of the USA's stature since 1950 is actually pointing to the contrary.

They'd been quarter finalists in 1994 (beating Argentina), and made the second round in 1990. Also they had Hagi. The USA have no player to hold a candle to a Hagi.

This is a game that I look forward watching, even though part of me wants both teams to lose. But as long as that is not possible, I guess I will just hope both stink. England will hopefully prove that they are being over-hyped by their fans, who generally rate them among the favorites even though they really aren't. And the US team, which is not an easy side to beat, might take points against England, even though it may very well end up losing points to Slovenia or Algeria or both.

    Clark
    Bradley

yeah. why would you ever want to start the one central midfielder that can control the ball, pass under pressure and with a creative flair when you can start Ricardo Clark who has proved he pretty much sucks and turns the ball over at every opportunity.

and why start a striker who can actually score and hold the ball up and relieve some pressure for the team when you can start RSL bench player and whiff artist extraordinaire.

bradley proves again he is a moron.

Believe me England fans are not over hyping, first times in a while that England fans feel very unconfident at a tournament.

Other way round my friend. I've never read so much shit as I have on this board being spouted by the Yanks.

So much so it has affected my decision on where to watch the game. I've decided to stay in and post while watching, rather than at the pub.

Both line-ups are quite unimpressive. I hope Fabio proves me wrong and has seen something in Heskey that I've never seen.

I haven't seen a single American player or coach say a ridiculously overconfident statement about this game - only fans.

    And we're irrelevant.

The fans are the problem. The players and back-room staff all respect one another.

Fans are the problem on both sides... actually more like the ignorant, loud, and obnoxious fans.

All of the news out of England has been unreasonably overconfident.

    Dont sleep on the Yanks.

We have upsets in our blood. In our culture, we fully believe that on any given day, in any given competition, that we can win...no matter how much the odds are stacked against us. Why? Because we do it all the time in our individual lives, and our countrymen have made it the national standard to aspire to...all the way back to the founders of our nation.
