Can you use the P&R shuttle even if you are not parking (in my case, i dont have a car)... if I were to walk as a complete stranger to the P&R facility to catch the shuttle to the stadium.. will they allow me to board for free and come back to the same place for free ?

My feeling is that once you're actualy on West Campus (and you can walk there), you can use your match ticket to board the busses. I think the fee is for car parking only and if you have a car with 10 or 0 passengers, the fee is the same. At the Confed Cup, everything was free - but I think the local city councils are now hoping to recoup some of the costs.

to put it to you this way - I'm hoping to use my Wits staff parking to park on the east campus - and then walk across to the West campus and catch the P&R for free!

    SA Friends,

What is the best way to get from Fourways to Ellis Park, Fourways to Pretoria and Fourways to Rustenburg? I am thinking it is to take transport from Lanseria to Ellis Park, Bus to Rustenburg from Sandton? via http://transport.strictlytickets.com/StrictlyTickets (not sure where to catch that bus though) and from Fourways to Pretoria I am not sure yet. These are for the USA games and I do have a rental car as an option but would prefer minimal driving so I can have a few bevies (cab shuttle/trains for 3 people). Also, any good bars or places to watch the other games around Fourways?

    Thanks!

When I go to computicket it asks how many tickets i want to buy, so is it R50 per car or per person, doesn't say on the site...

Guess what - you CANNOT use the park & ride unless you park in it. You will have to bum a lift with someone to get in.

Be careful using the Park and Ride buses!

I just wanted to share my experience with the Park and Ride buses from the world cup opening concert.

The buses going to the event went very smoothly without any problems. However, after the concert it was mayhem. There seemed to be no orginization, and things started to get unsafe. People were pushing, and the crowd was getting anxious trying to get onto the few buses. We probably packed 200 people onto our double-decker bus. The conditions were ripe for people to get trampled.

So, be safe and stay calm when boarding the buses after the games.

The North Phokeng Park and Ride service at Rustenburg yesterday was a nightmare!. It was a free-for-all for shuttle buses back to the carpark after the game with hopeless crowd marshalling. There was no option of street parking anywhere remotely near the stadium. Long traffic tailbacks on the N1 toll road back to Pretoria. Eventually got back at 4am. Driving at night in SA not recommended!

Hope things improve by the time I'm back there for R16 game, but I will be more prepared for a long night..

    Thanks for the heads up.
Did you have to purchase park and ride tickets, same as for Joburg or could you just park as long as you have a match ticket?

It is free for all ticket holders (not that anyone checks).

If going to Rustenburg, drive through town on R565 towards stadium. sat nav is a good idea.
You get to a set of lights where the stadium is signposted to the right. People are in the middle of the road directing the traffic away from the right turn. be persistant and blag your way through. The road is closed but leads directly to stadium. A final checkpoint is set up, but there is a left turn at it next to Toms restaurant. The guy who lives in the house charges R50 to park in his garden. 150 yards from stadium. getting out was easy. Back out our lodge by midnight and it was 50 mins drive away!

TSHWANE/PRETORIA - Park and Walk Sites

I understand that the Pretoria Technical High School will be the park and walk site in Pretoria.

What is the address of this park & walk? Are there a lot of places there or I should came very early to take place?

    Thanks!

There is a map at the bottom of this site - http://www.nerv.co.za/tshwane_new/n...services-in-tshwane-are-ready-and-theyre-free

we used the Southern Park & ride last night about 2 hours before the game - there was plenty of spaces open.

I would go at least 2 hours before the game - once you have parked you can walk and take in the vibe. After the match don't rush out - we sat in the stadium until there were only a few 100 people and the rush outside was almost over.

I used Park & Walk for Serbia-Ghana. Very easy to get to and well-marked. We left about 3 hours before the match from Johannesburg and were parked within 45 minutes or so. The walk to the stadium is about 10 minutes. There is a good fan vibe in Pretoria, and the stadium is nicely set within the city.

We left as soon as the final whistle blew and were out of the Park and Ride and onto the highway within 15 minutes. Pretoria has gotten it right, of the venues I've been to so far (Soccer City, Ellis Park, Rustenburg)

There looked to be two sections in the Park and Walk, one of which was filled and the other with plenty of space. I don't think it filled up for Serbia-Ghana but don't quote me. Better to get there early.

I used Wits for Ellis Park (Brazil - North Korea). From what i saw, it was well organized both going to the stadium and more importantly, getting back to the car. Took maybe 40 minutes each way? If I didn't already have tickets for the park and walk tomorrow, I'd definitely do Wits again.

WHAT??? Are you actually going to a game??. ARe you actually going to buy tickets?

The wits park & ride worked perfectly for Soccer city apart from the fact that the buses parked the furthest from the stadium so the walk was quite far and dusty.

Please go for it - great experience. You will see while travelling on the bus that Jhb has been cleaned up nicely for the occasion - hope it stays that way.

I am considering getting tickets 2nd hand...Considering using the Westgate Transport Hub...I get the feeling my traffic will be much less that way around...My biggest concern is the getting back part. I don't want to end up waiting until 2:00am to just get a bus and then for that bus still having to go back all the way to Westgate, and then from there driving home....But then again, i don't want to necc drive to Soweto either if i can't help it...

I'd recommend Shareworld park and walk. Try and park near the exit though.
Buy your ticket in advance from computicket.

Park and Rides seem to work everywhere except Rustenburg,
