There are quite a few in SF, but I don't know about the age thing. The mad dog in the fog (haight and fillmore) serves food, so they may let you in during the day. Same with the Pig and whistle (Geary and wood). Give em a call to find out.

Kezar Pub in SF serves food, too.
And I never saw any person at the door checking IDs in this place.
There are no any signs "21 and over" either.

These are all good in the city . . . Kezar's on Carl and Cole (I believe) is definately good.

There's also an "Irish Pub" place on Haight and Clayton that has games on constantly. Last night was the Eredivisie, if that's your cup of tea. I can't remember the name of it, but the directions are spot on.

That's Martin Mack's. I believe you can get in if you're under 21 before nine. After that, goodbye. A word of warning..it's loud, smoky, obnoxious, drunken, and the mens' room is the grossest I've ever come across...EVER.

All the other places mentioned (Mad Dog, Kezars, Pig and Whistle) will allow you in before nine (call ahead to make sure). Kezar's will always show the big four first, though, if there's a scheduling conflict.

You might try Rawlings at Bridgepoint in San Mateo. They have so many TV's and each can be set for different channels. Basically every table has access to a TV. So if a game is on and Rawlings has access to it, you can see it. I watched the replay of the 5-2 playoff victory over LA there....It is not a soccer pub by any stretch of the imagination though.

We need a place like Summer's Restaurant in Arlington, Virginia. Sure, the atmosphere was roadside diner, at best, but they showed soccer pretty much non-stop, and one would be lucky to get in the door when ManUtd and Arsenal were on the bill--even at 7:00 in the morning on a Saturday.

Isn't Mad Dog In The Fog in SF like this?
They open in 5-6am for some of EPL games - that's for sure.

I watched several Euro 2000 games in there and I was lucky to be able to get a chair.

(It is so nice driniking Guinness on the patio outside at 10am :))

Might be; not sure. I walked over there a couple of times from my office during lunch, intending to grab a bite to eat and watch 30 minutes of Champions League, but I wasn't allowed through the door without a $20 cover. That seemed a little steep to me for a weekday at noon, especially since the place wasn't crowded. (And maybe that's why it wasn't crowded, for better or worse!) So I just convinced the bartender at the Chevy's on Van Ness to flip the game on. No problem.

They charge hefty fees for Setanta games, but if it's on ESPN or FSW at the same time, then they won't charge. Perhaps they were showing another game at the same time that they have to pay for. I've talked to Roger (the owner) and according to him, they get charged a hefty fine.

The Merseyside derby this Saturday will probably be $5 to get in to watch it live at 7 AM. But if you come at nine and watch the same game that's on FSW, there's no charge.

The Fiddler's Green in Millbrae is a fine authentic Irish pub. I don't think they show the Saturday EPL games since it is a Celtic pub, but I go in and watch weekday matches there and eat. Most of the matches you could get on FSW, but it's a great place to go to get out of the house. (The atmosphere at the UEFA cup final last year was incredible),

They are on El Camino just south of Hillcrest. Age 21 no problem, except perhaps later at night.

    Couple other ideas

Places that are close to you...
The Old Pro (2865 El Camino Real, Palo Alto) will show games, but don't expect anything that's not on basic cable during their business hours.

I've heard that the Rose and Crown Pub in Palo Alto has been known to show games as well, but I'll have to confirm that later.

If you have a car and can travel across the San Mateo bridge, Ricky's and the Englander, both in San Leandro, definitely show soccer (although the Englander has the more soccer friendly crowd). I've seen lots of games at both places (and helped organize a gathering at Ricky's). Although, unless it's a HUGE game, I wouldn't expect either to open earlier than 10 or 11 am.

For those 5 am in the morning games, those places listed San Fran are probably your best bet.

Let's do that again, Guy. Great fun and anyplace is fine, even if it's not Ricky's. The staff seemed to really appreciate us, too.

Just talked to one of my co-workers, apparently the Rose and Crown in Palo Alto did show early morning EPL games, he wasn't sure if they did anymore, though. I'd suggest placing a call to them.

Steps of Rome, in the North Beach ditrict of San Francisco shows Serie A, also, a great place to watch World Cup and Euro Cup even if the Azzurri aren't your team.

Best of luck finding Seria A games. I've tried and except for The Steps of Rome, I've been basically given the finger by all of the other ones (Mad Dog in the Fig, Kezar Pub, and another I can't remember)

They all said, "we don't watch that crappy defensive game", so I said screw it and don't go to any of them anymore, (except to Kezar Pub to watch the Quakes when they are away and on MLS shootout.) In SF at bars it's the EPL basically, for everything else your SOL in SF.

The Step of Roma plays games, but the schedule is all messed up.

The usual Sunday games are only on live at 6:00 am to 8:00 on RAI international, and they aren't open yet. If it is a big game on Saturday or the late Sunday game, it will be on tape delayed. The games are usually aired at around 1:30pm, but it changes from week to week.

This week on RAI International it's:
    Brecia - Roma on Saturday @ 1:50pm PST &
Juventus - Chievo Verona on Sunday @ 6:00am PST

To see what Seria A games are on each week check out: http://www.soccertv.com/italy.cfm

For a list of RAI International see: http://www.international.rai.it/engl/areas/northamerica/index.shtml

Also, the international channel replays the 6:00am game each Sunday at 2:00PM (channel 69 for Digital Comcast in SF).

p.s Hey there supersport! Hope all is going well for you and the family!

The Englander has been great any time I've gone over there. Hell they even showed the US qualifyer against Guatemala back in September of 2000 (it was on a sunday so the place was stocked w/soccer fans), I caught some World Cup games, including the Brazil-England Quarterfinal 18 months ago, you couldn't even move in the place, it was just stacked with people. You can also catch EPL games there.

I don't know much about Ricky's and soccer, I really like the ownership there, but the clientelle can leave a lot to be desired at times (it can be exceedingly rowdy and potentially violent when it comes to the NFL).

Setanta are the biggest parasites in the business. They used to charge the Mad Dog a flat fee of a few thousand for big games, but when they saw how many people were coming in through the door, they changed their policy so that one of THEIR foot soldiers is on the door, and they give The Mad Dog 15% of whatever they take. Daylight Robbery, and there's nothing The Mad Dog can do about it because if they don't play ball, they don't get the games.

That's the reason the waitresses and hostesses liked us, the Quakes crowd, so much. There might have been a few f-bombs, but I guess that's nothing compared to what they get when the Raiders fans are there. We also provided the first time (or at least that's what they said) that they had been thanked.

    Ricky's and the Englander

The Englander is definitely the more soccer friendly place. The owner there is looking for a soccer crowd.

Ricky's is the "unofficial" official Raiders' hangout, a major sports bar, and restaurant in general. It's definitely major American sports first. It's how his bread gets buttered. However, the owner just happens to be a bit of a soccer fan himself. He has gone out of his way for me personally to get games on a TV for me. I got to watch a lot of Crew games (including the Open Cup final vs the Fire several years ago) thanks to him. As long as there isn't a major sporting event going on at the same time (or NFL Sunday) and you call ahead, they're happy to hook people up. In the case of major soccer events (World Cup, Euro Cup, Champions League, etc). You'll be able to watch them on the big screen with other fans.

I never been there on an NFL Sunday, but in all of the other times I've been there. I've never had the slightest problem with any customers (except when CJ Brown's family showed up to watch that same Open Cup final...but that's another story :) ).

They were probably pricks to everyone. That way they go bye-bye.
