http://www.3rddegree.net/ COREY GIBBS REACHES AGREEMENT TO SIGN WITH MLS AND DALLAS BURN --3rd Degree has learned from MLS sources that MLS and the Dallas Burn have reached an agreement in principle with Corey Gibbs. The contract has been sent to Gibbs for signature and an announcement should take place in the next several days. The same sources have indicated Gibbs will likely arrive in Dallas by the end of the week. Gibbs has spent the last few years playing in Germany for St. Pauli which has recently fallen to the 3rd Division there.
Congratulations to the Burn! Even though I would have loved to see him in C-Bus, I'm glad to see he'll be getting regular playing time and hopefully develop into a strong national teamer.
Second that. AND, he's over 23, so he won't be gone at the same time as the other three, assuming no other trades/deals, etc, correct? Buzz, you are going to cover practice Thursday, right? Just to let us know what everyone is looking like? Please?
Assuming we make Athens, he could be one of 3 allowed overage players. But then again, so could Jason Kreis..........
First, congratulations to the Burn and to Gibbs. Dallas deserves to have a player like him and he deserves to get a chance to show Arena what he can do. Second, expect him to receive a few call-ups by Arena for WC Qualifiers. He will become the USMNT player that Dallas fans have been wanting, although that can be both a blessing and a curse. But forget all that, GO BURN.
Allocation So does this mean that we are going to use both of our allocations instead of the previous idea that we would use one and then hold onto the other one till midway through the season? We still need a star central midfielder and a defensive mid...unless Talley is going to play defensive mid. I heard that they have narrowed their search down to three central midfielders before they got Gibbs. My guess is that they were not expectig Gibbs only that MLS signed him and gave him to Dallas so Dallas said OK used one of their allocatons and is still going to sign a central midfielder with the last SI and allocation spot. On top of this I also heard that they might be able to land a promising young transitional international who can play defensive mid, would not take up a senior international spot or allocation. What are your guys thoughts?
I just hope that Gibbs works out better than Earnie Stewart did. We all know how overrated all these Euro-Gringos are
3rd Degree reported a few days ago that Clarke hoped to sign the central midfielder with a discovery pick and therefore save the 2nd allocation for a rainy day.

Re: Allocation I thought I read Soccernet that both Columbus and MetroStars were interested in Gibbs but the Burn swooped in and trumped them with their #1 allocation slot. I definitely got the feeling from the article that the Burn wanted Gibbs. Sorry I don't have a link. :-(
Re: Re: Allocation Yes - the Crew actually tried to sign him as a discovery player last year but the league apparently said no. And while I might feel a bit sorry for the Crew under other circumstances, their bitching and moaning about how they got screwed has pretty much ended that chance - this from the team that had Brian McBride, got Brad Friedel for a song at our expense, and got Frankie Hejduk for a song last season. I think not.
goooood. Amazing, we're actually getting something, I'm happy pretty good offseason if you ask me... -Back to Cotton Bowl -Aquire Gibbs -Frisco groundbreaking (soon anyways) among other things Now is it April 3rd yet?
