    A midfield maestro

Or one of those dogs that can play soccer, to help fill up the stadium with support from the large local canine community

I think we need a true creative playmainking mid in the center. This has been a real weakness for us for a long time since we got rid of Amado a while back.

Ballack and Cole seem free agent now, Redbulls could aggressive in signing for them.

omfg i'd wet myself, one of my favorite all time players.

Xavi is staying at Barca until his legs fall off, he's Catalan through and through and probably has no interest in relocating here.

They may be good players, 'world class' even, but they don't fill the slot we need, playmaker.

Ballack can easily fulfill the role of playmaker within MLS and if we brought in Henry and him, we'd be the class of the East.

But he's not a playmaker by trade. He's a good attacking player and leader. There are lot of good players in top leagues that you could fulfill just about any role in MLS, but I'd rather get someone who is primarily a #10.

edit. I'd say the same about Gerrard or Lampard or any other attacking midfielder like them. (obvoulsy if they where a little older and looking to move to a lesser league, not now. I'd take them now in a heartbeat.)

What about a good centerback like Luisao, or Arne Friedrich? They probably won't sell seats themselves but winning puts fans in the seats. Also, I don't know if the Red Bulls would be willing to pay for a "non-sexy" choice of DP or if they would even want to come here.

id say we should pull out all the stops and try and get wayne rooney. i dont know if messi would fit into our system, but christiano ronaldo definitely would. we should aim to get at least one of them

Also, we probably could use a Gerard Pique or Daniel Alves. Attacking midfielder? Let's get Iniesta while he's still young.

Deco and Ballack are serious candidates no matter what anybody here says. I would be willing to bet that atleast one of them is chased by NYRB.

Someone in the club (not a player) was talking Deco last year but I took it at the time as just wishing and hoping.

I recall talk of a midfielder from Sweden who was well regarded but I forget this name.
