Max Headroom? Really? That's, like, the conservative's ideal world -- large corporations running the world into the ground -- but the large corporations are portrayed as bad, and the plucky journalists who fight to expose the large corporations are the good guys. For that one, and Firefly, they seem to be defining "conservative" as "libertarian". I'm not sure when conservatives became anti-government, but it was probably right around January 2009. My wife told me that she was a fan of "Hunter", because it was the first cop show that she remembered from her childhood that had a lady cop who could hold her own with the guys. So, you know, score one for feminism. Buffy too. How on earth is that a conservative show?
I'm not even convinced the author was actually well acquainted with some of these shows. For example, the inclusion of South Park suggests the author only paid attention when they mocked people he didn't like. Either that, or he thinks Cartman is the hero of the show.
No idea. Not only was there tons of occult stuff and pre-marital sex....but there was pre-marital sex with vampires and werewolves.
Damn, forgot all about Wally George, he was the OG. And as far as the list goes, it seems to be more about shows that can be interpreted in a "conservative" light than shows that were created by or for conservatives. And it's still a pretty stupid list.
This sort of thing is really best left to Jonah Goldberg/NRO crowd. I expect a little more staggeringly counter-logic analysis in my lists of conservative culture touchstones. Also, JG would have gotten Battlestar Galactica in there, at least until the seasons before it BETRAYED him.
To be fair, Jonah was not responsible for selecting such rock-ribbed conservative films as Brazil and The Lives of Others to NRO's top 25 movies list (his choices were those obvious attacks on lie-bruls Groundhog Day and A Simple Plan), so perhaps I am giving him too much credit/mockery.
If we can't agree on the 25 best conservative TV shows, let's see if we can get along on the 50 worst inventions. There are some utterly hilarious ones, like Vio (carbonated milk) and the Pet Spa. http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/completelist/0,29569,1991915,00.html
Goldberg is also a enormous and well-versed pop culture junkie. I'm not a fan of JG, but he made a fairly compelling argument on why conservatives should watch The Wire without attempting to label it a conservative show.

I'm still convinced that some DNC or MoveOn operative is responsible for creating that original HeadOn ad and then having it air 2 or 3 times during every single Fox News commercial break a few years back.
Heh - I'd totally forgotten about Microsoft Bob. I only had to look up a handful of those items - I'm not sure how to feel about that.
And lesbifriends. EDIT - Looking at that guy's list, and his rationales for each pick, it's pretty clear that he doesn't have any idea what "conservative" actually means.

Having seen every single MacGyver episode ever made, including the god awful movies (I am not ashamed!), you're utterly and totally wrong. The show was unbelievably liberal, not merely in its disposition toward violence and guns, but even more so in terms of the social and political bearing of its later seasons. To my eye MacGyver is actually something of a paragon of left-wing masculinity.
Personally, I find the analysis of this mainly liberal group of posters about what is and isn't a conservative show rather humorous. I'm not sure a list of top liberal shows designed by conservatives would please everyone here. For example, let's lake the inclusion of Firefly. Given current conservative "messages" about the intrusion of a micro managing central government into our life, the show fits based on the author's explanation of why he chose it. That I wouldn't consider Firefly a conservative show is largely irrelevant. People - even groups of people - can create their own reality, at least to a point.
The McDonalds ad in France along with O'Reilly's response bring this thread full circle. http://rawstory.com/rs/2010/0603/oreilly-run-gay-ad-mcdonalds-qaeda-ad/ [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBuKuA9nHsw&feature=player_embedded"]YouTube- Gay McDonald's ad in France:[/ame]
These lists are a joke because conservatives use them to claim that their side owns completely unowned, universally loved concepts like freedom and family and to try and force abhorrent concepts onto liberals, like we all love state-fueled repression. Although I can't help but feel chastened in my Nazi-loving godlessness by Hitler Meets Christ. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zqyVMk9GLk"]YouTube- Hitler Meets Christ trailer[/ame]
