I will be watching the matches at the stadiums too. I have the R16 matches in JNB June 27, 28 and July 2, 3. Are you refering to Monte Casino Lodge to stay while in JNB? I am also looking for places to party after the games too.
Yep mate I was referring to the Monte Casino lodge. From reading other forums and doing a bit of research on the web it looks like there's loads of bars/clubs in the area, so it should be very lively. Plus there's always the Casino as a last resort! I have got tickets for all of those matches you listed as well! I may very well see you there (as long as NZ don't shock us all and qualify for the 2nd round, in which case I'll have to make a last-minute trip to Durban/Pretoria!). Of the hostels that are still left, I think Monte Casino is the most appealing to me. Will probably book everything up this weekend. If you do end up staying at Monte Casino, look out for an Indian Scottish guy wearing a NZ shirt and I'll buy you a beer!

I'll be the Scottish guy wearing the Scottish shirt ;-)[/QUOTE] Awww for a moment I thought it read Scottish SKIRT!
Ha ha! As it turns out, I always take a kilt when I travel... hearts123 - are you staying at Monte Casino as well? Thank god I live in a country which has qualified for the World Cup, or else I might have ended up supporting England !
Hi Robert, I'm staying in Joburg and Pretoria for the duration. We are coming over for the last 2 weeks. Travelling about as well tho. ;-)
Okay I am a bit pissed off at the moment. I have just been informed that my Tour Booking at Falstaff Inn has been switched to Ambassador Guest House 8 Sutter Road, Selection Park Springs 1559 As far as I can tell this is in the middle of nowhere. It was only 1 night but I thought I could drop by a hotel or two to watch Australia play and maybe find somewhere more interesting to eat than my hotel. Now I am wondering what choices I have in the area? Can anyone advise?.
Without a car, you are rooted. Or you can prepare yourself by renting the film "Straight Outta Benoni", as you'll be staying next door!
I hope its a good film ! Yeh the other issue is that I have been contemplating going earlier and attending the Pretoria game on the 13th. Looks like a transport nightmare to get back to the hotel afterwards. Checking trains etc now...
It's on the same quality level as "Freddy Got Fingered". Seriously, look for somewhere else. Availability has opened up in the "happening" areas. On the other hand if you are going with someone else, you could take a chance on riding Metrorail to/from Ellis Park for the game. But I wouldn't, as I prefer to deprive myself of the full African urban experience.
"Seriously, look for somewhere else. Availability has opened up in the "happening" areas. " Its part of a pre booked tour so I haven't any choice really. I am considering taking the train But at the moment it looks like the last Springs train is too early.
i will be staying very close to monte casino at fourways at a friends apartment. Could plan meetups at monte casino
19:14 departure for a 16:00 kick off should work for the match on the 12th, as you originally indicated. For the match at Loftus on the 13th, you will need to make a plan, as they say here.
"19:14 departure for a 16:00 kick off should work. " The Sunday timetable I found suggests last train from Jo'burg is close to 6pm & I would still have to get from Pretoria to Joburg.
Hi Roberto Larcos I will be staying close to montecasino too at fourways . At a friends apartment who's been living there for a couple of years now. I can find out details about transport to stadiums and other details from him . Lets meetup for drinks if we're are going to live closeby. You can reach me on this joburg number +27790187079. I get there on the 10th morning. Are you going for the opening game or the concert on the 10th?
"Closest happening place would be Carnival City. Still a way off though. " it looks like it might be plausible tho. It appears less than 10km from my accommodation. Any suggestions re transport? EG would a local bus be safe enough? My plane arrives 4pm & the Australia game is 8 30pm so I need to be somewhere to watch it.
Post your complete schedule - landing time, dates, where you have to be etc. Transport to and from Springs will have to be by shuttle or taxi - have no idea re public transport.
Hey whats up everyone, some really great info in this thread. Have a few questions that i'm hoping some of the locals can help me out with. I'll be staying in sandton, at the sandton premier apartments on grayston drive to be exact, and was looking for some cool stuff to do. Where to hang out, watch games, eat, drink, nightlife etc. You know the standard good times stuff. I've read about a lot of places but looking for the inside scoop on what you guys like. Any help with this would be awesome. Oh and is sandton easy to get around by on foot or would i need taxis to do so? Thanks in advance
you should be able to walk to most places unless it is very late at night and you are on your own. Just go to the fan park or Sandton square - more than enough to keep you busy there. Village walk too. Ask to meet up with uuaww - he will be in the vicinity
Yeah, I'll be there the 15th-21st and will unlikely leave the Sandton area except to head to games. The 16th I am heading to Lion park in the morning and Carnivore restaurant in the evening and anyone is welcome to join.
Hey mate - I only arrive in SA on the 19th. Will be staying in Monte Casino until the 28th, though I will be spending one night in Durban for Brazil-Portugal. I have got a match every day during this time, so will be making day trips to Polokwane/Nelspruit/Rustenburg and Bloemfontein. I'm back in Jo'burg for both QFs on July 3/4, and on 9-11 July for the final. If you're around any of these dates, I'd be well up for a pint (or ten!)
I would be leaving to Capetown on the 18th morning and back to montecasino on the 21st morning. Can meet one of those days between the 23rd and 28th(i head back on the 28th too). If your polokwane game is on the 22nd as mine is , could go together.
Hello again and thanks to all for your great posts! New question: I will be in Cape Town for the semi. I land on July 4th at 10 am and leave on July 7th at 6:30 am. Inbetween these flights I had planned to do the following: * July 4: Table Mountain National Park + city * July 5: Hermanus and whale watching, evening dinner and show at Mama Africa * July 6: Cape Point and Boulders, semi in the evening. Is this reasonable and what am I missing out on big time that I should try to squeeze in? I know it is stupid to only be there for such a short time but this is what the match schedule allowed for so have to do the best with what I got..
