So I never thought I'd have to use a Heimlich on someone at a BB tailgate. I was chatting with Brian, talking about his cast and his stop loss, and a guy I've seen but don't really know named Mike came up to us sort of drooling and kind of lurching. I thought he had too much to drink and was getting ready to hurl. Brian immediately recognized that he was choking and tried to give him a Heimlich, but wasn't able to get under his sternum because of the cast, so he pushes him at me and says "you do it." Yikes! Regardless, I managed to remember what I learned a long time ago in a first aid class well enough to dislodge the piece of meat he was choking on. Got to say that made it a BB tailgate I won't soon forget.
This is an important maneuver practiced by professional athletes, too. Note how a well-trained soccer player can get an opponent to cough up the ball with a one-armed Heimlich: Well done, Jeremy!
