I've decided not to stress out about the obvious shortcomings of the team. Until Coach Onalfo starts taking this season seriously and realizes the depth of shit we are in and starts acting like we are in trouble instead of polishing the turd in the press. If he don't care, why should I? Thx, Jay!
It was over before it even started... on the other hand, my wife made ginger beer, went great with all the vodka I've drunk tonight, sorry no rum in the house
Why can't we get post-match quotes from Kasper as well? I'd love to see his evolving explanation for this cocksucking abortion of an experience he's arranged for us.
This is the worst "professional" team I have ever watched. I can't believe I paid for season tickets for this dreck. I watched the U.S. women play real football and dismantle the Germans, and then I stayed around for this? Really, Will Chang, man up and kick Dave Kasper out the door on Monday. Let Onalfo and Payne know they are on a short leash. I said to my wife after the first goal -- this team is starting two central defenders. One hasn't played for a team in a year, he was good, but now he's 37 and can't outrun a statue. The other was cut by his last team. Now, you can say "if only" Jakovic hadn't been injured. Sure, "if only" he hadn't been injured only one of the two cast offs would be starting -- big effing improvement.
I think he cares and he is taking this season seriously but he doesn't have anything with which to work. I don't think his choice of subs at the half was that great but I didn't think it was damming either. And he can't control the refs that let other teams stomp on our players and not get carded off the field. Nor can he control idiot trainers who obviously live in another universe where not doing sprints as part of a training regime is better for the players. I just don't think we have the talent to make up a decent team. I think that we have a lot of decent individual players and that they could be part of a good team but the current mix is mediocre at best.
Lack of talent is not an excuse for playing crap, disorganized, aimless soccer. That's all needless no matter the talent level and that's all on Onalfo.
Does that 0 goals surprise anyone? .4 goals a GAME. That's a goal every 225 minutes/almost 4 hours. DC United has a pathetic offense. MLS should have 2 divisions and DC United should be relegated, and prove it belongs in the Top Division. Since that won't happen, let's get serious. Let's make some changes. Or the fans aren't going to show up. Just sayin'.
You don't think as head coach he shouldn't have some sort of say in the training regime the trainer wanted to do? I think the trainer works for him and he can control and should have been controlling the trainer better. He shouldn't have made both subs to start half time, it smacked of desperation. It didn't cost us the game but limited what we could do.
Quaranta, Simms, Pontius, Jackovic, and maybe Perkins. That's it. You've still got to fill the other half of the starting lineup-and they've probably got to be better than the players I just listed if you want to be successful. This team has 4 goals in 9 games. 3 of those goals were due to defensive turnovers. The cupboard is bare. Heads need to roll.
OK, admittedly not much. Let's say that it limited his options for the rest of the half and then with Moreno needing a sub we were out of subs.
The second goal was quality, the Dutch national team should do well at the World Cup... Speaking of which "it can't get any worse" as DC United will not be able to lose any games during the World Cup... (Just saying!) This is a comedy of tragedic proportions!
See, I actually like Cristman as Allsop as a pair. I think if they had a decent mid-field, they could concentrate on just being forwards and would be more effective. Morsink at least gets pissy and fights for the team. That goes a hell of a long way in my book, especially this season. Najar, is trying his heart out but I think he's under way too much pressure for a 17 year-old. I think Pena would be more useful if he had Namoff and Jakovic back there with him. Putting a rookie on the backline with him is probably not helping him much. We all like Simms, right? And Hamid? And Pontius? I have no clue what Castillo is doing on the field. Perkins - well, I don't know what happened to him. Maybe he isn't used to playing in the heat any more. Maybe will click and we'll have old Perkins back. I keep hoping Tino will bounce back to where he was in 2008. That was a great year for him. And I'm now too tired to think about the rest of the team, most of them are injured anyway. Meh.
Perkins was much better in this game. he didn't have much of a chance on either goal and his defense really left him stranded. He had several excellent saves to keep us in the game, if we had an offense to take advantage of it.
