true, but through no fault of your own. someone who chose to lock in a 24 month relationship with directv knowing full well directv had announced nothing regarding FSC HD, well.....

It's a risk you take. I am not sure about your other interests, but as an NHL and MLB fan, Directv is a no brainer decision for me.

or rather, a risk i'm not willing to take. at least not yet. if i had real other sports viewing interests, i'd probably already have directv and be in the same boat as you.

as it is, my current provider dilemma is based almost solely on (HD) footie packages. about the only other issue is DVR. i'm hooked on tivo. (now, if directv had that fabled new directv hd tivo they and tivo have been promising for several months.....) for now, i figure the directv HR23 and dish vip722 will be mostly a wash.

so many *potential* reasons to go with directv, so far, mostly vapor.....

ESPN has 83 Prem games next season. Question is - which other arrangements are in force for next season? I know the EPL and Champions League on FSC and La Liga on GolTV are, but I'm not sure about the game-sharing from/to GolTV (La Liga, Bundesliga, Europa League)

wrt making a decision on which sat to go with for HD footie next season - my advice is ... wait until August. No sense in making a decision with incomplete information.

of course, however, as i don't have any HD package at the moment, i don't get ESPN HD, which of course means, no HD world cup. i'll need to decide and get whatever solution installed and ready before june, so i'll likely need to make my decision with incomplete info.....:(

if you don't have HD now, how important is it that you get it before the World Cup - compared to the entire league seasons? Plus you could always pull in HD OTA for the ABC games, no?

i could do HD OTA, but the HD DVR is the problem, or rather, lack thereof. i can take off work for say, usa games, but the rest of my weekday world cup viewing will need to be DVRed.

hmmm. only a tiny handful of friends are footie fans with soccer packages and HD DVRs. scheduling keeps us from regularly getting together for timely euro seasons viewings. but i'd bet even casual footie fans would record the world cup in HD. if i can watch the cup in HD at friends' places, maybe i can delay until directv sez something about fsc hd. (and having downloaded various HD games makes me think i really want to see the cup in HD).

Wouldn't life be easier if you could only get *this package* from DirecTV and *that package* from Dish Network? Yeah, you'd probably end up paying a little bit more, and i'd imagine that there'd be some sort of A/B switch headache to deal with, when you have two STBs going into the same TV, but you'd be set for life.

Too bad it's not that easy.

Just switched from DISH to DirecTV. I was so mad at DISH because they yanked GolTV right after I commited to a 2 year agreement. Now they are the ones with FSC HD!! I will now have GolTV back, in HD, but I'd really rather have FSC in HD. EPL and MLS are my gigs!

Give what a few months? Dish bringing back GolTV? It's been gone from Dish for nearly 2 years now. Supposedly they are set to launch HD version in August 2010 which DirectTV will carry. I wonder if Dish will revisit at this point?

The is speculation in other threads here that ESPN may be interested in purchasing GolTV, given how successful this World Cup turned out for them.

I guess a higher profile owner pushing the channel more would create more pressure on Dish to carry it. I'd sure like to start getting it.

The same DISH that dropped Disney HD, Disney XD HD, ABC Family HD and ESPN News HD from its lineup. The same DISH that doesn't carry ESPNU HD and is in a lawsuit with Disney (who owns ESPN).

A Question about Fox HD on Directv

I am a Dish subscriber. The HD feeds for Fox Soccer and Fox Soccer+ are lousy quality when compared to the HD on ESPN -- and numerous other HD channels. Fox pictures are far less sharp and are low-def size, compared to ESPN's full screen.

Can a Directv subscriber tell me about how Fox HD feeds arrive on their set? Is it the equal of ESPN's soccer feeds or of less quality?

if you are asking about how directv's FSC HD feed comes in, it comes in at about SD resolution..... :(

Thanks, Duke. This tells me I have no reason to cancel Dish and switch to DirecTV before my Dish commitment ends in January. I'll reevaluate then based on what deals each is offering.

BTW, I'm a DCU fan since club was formed. Like everyone else, I'm suffering big time this season. A new low for the franchise. If you're interested and not a follower of the Soccer Insider blog of Washington Post soccer reporter Steve Goff, it's a great source of DCU news and chatter.

Re: A Question about Fox HD on Directv

:) of course that's because DirecTV doesn't have FSC in HD.

RunningCloud, make sure what you're comparing on FSC is actually real HD and not just upconverted European i576 widescreen
