I will be visiting Seattle for the first time in June and the top thing on my "to do" list is to find a pub where I can watch USA vs. England live on June 12. I plan on staying in the downtown area and would like to find a soccer pub I can walk to. I believe the match will be starting at 10:30am your time. Where should I go to watch the match?
There will be viewings all over, probably every bar will at least have it on a tv. However, what kind of atmosphere are you looking for? American Outlaws and the ECS are teaming up for a viewing party. http://www.weareecs.com/2010/usa-vs-england-this-revolution-will-be-televised/
Every soccer bar will be nutzo-packed... This is what AO is setting up: http://www.weareecs.com/2010/usa-vs-england-this-revolution-will-be-televised/ -- a 650 person venue that normally does shows. There is also George & Dragon, which is mostly an English bar if that's what you're into. Fado's downtown. Listen, it will be insane at all these places, so be prepared. BTW, USA is at noon. Argentina v Nigeria at 9am... Not one to miss either.
Thanks for the info. asoc and Ajas. The AO party sounds fun, is it in some kind of theatre? If so is it auditorium style seating? Is this walking distance or an easy cab ride from a downtown hotel? I looked into the game time more closely and it appears the US England match is at 11:30 your time.
Don't expect seating. More like standing room only. there is a balcony that has seating, but it might be removed to accommodate the masses. It's a little hard to predict what everything will be like since there's never really been a match-up of this magnitude before. There will be no parking... from downtown take the 12 bus, it's just a 10-15 minute bus ride depending on where downtown. Or cab it, cheap, cheap fare, least of your worries.
OK so it's like a concert hall w/o seats. That's perfect. I assume there is a bar that will be serving. Thanks again for the info.
Yes. There will be a bar. Like someone said, the match will be shown all over the area and there's at least one or two other theatres which are going to show it, one in 3D as I heard it on the radio.
ugg.. anywhere where its expected to show, you better show up at least 2 hours early. even residual venues will probably be packed, your best bet is american football venues that play soccer, like fox sports downtown, or spectator bar and grill, floyds place, ozzies restraunt and lounge in lower queene anne....
I'm so down for this Last time I hung out with American Outlaws in Chicago I had a blast, best soccer fans I've ever met
There will be 3 bars open at Neumos: One in the main stage area where the projection screen is located, the Mezzanine bar (with two 50-inch HD TVs), and Moe's bar (with two other HD TVs). Neumos doors open at 8am, but capacity is 650 and expected to reach that limit very early. Entrance is free. 9am Argentina v Nigeria. 11:30am USA v England (Live). 1:30pm Greece v South Korea. And FYI: The US v England game is not being broadcast in 3D - Rustenburg Stadium will not be outfitted with 3D cameras. Only the US v Slovenia game will be filmed/broadcast in 3D during the group stage.
I appreciate all of the previous info. What is Spitfire like? It is near my hotel and advertises itself as a "soccer pub".
I wouldn't call Spitfire a "soccer pub". More like an upscale sports bar. The type where hip-hop dudes go to hit on white chicks, and preppies go to "keep it real, but not too real". The chicken tacos are awesome though, but that's about it imo. They do plan on showing every single match, opening up at 4 am for the early ones, but i doubt it'll be the type of atmosphere you're looking for.
I have a question about George & Dragon. I really like the English bar-feel to the place, but I also want to be around primarily American fans (or at least 50-50ish). According to their website, http://www.georgeanddragonpub.com/ontelly.php, this game will be shown at both George & Dragon and the Market Arms. Then, if you scroll down to June 23 - when England and the U.S. are playing other opponents at the same time, it says that the U.S. game will just be at the Market Arms. Do you think it would then be fair to assume that the Market Arms will be a little more U.S.-friendly than the George & Dragon for the U.S.-England game?
why bother when you can attend with 100% american brethren and supporters creating the best atmosphere in one of the largest viewing parties on the west coast (per American outlaws).
Because that is not necessarily what I am looking for. I don't need 100 percent American supporters. I have not decided yet where I will be watching that game and am still curious if anybody has George & Dragon / Market Arms thoughts.
By the way, is there anywhere in Seattle that will show a live broadcast of the U.S.-Australia friendly at 5:30 a.m. Saturday morning? I know both Fado and George & Dragon are no on that.
G&D will be insane. In fact, if you don't get there when the doors open good luck getting in at all. Market Arms I've never been to. BTW fuzzy-- are we going to be revamping any ECS chants for this match? Because listening to the US v Turkey supporters doing the same stupid song over and over got insanely annoying. Who is on capo duty?
What pisses me off about those US chants and songs they were doing is that they are mostly adpted from Columbus Crew chants ie: "We love you, we love you, we love you and where you go we'll follow, we'll follow" blah blah. I think this was the song you heard over and over again. Oh and the DC United song: "Oooooooh USA, USA, USA Vamos USA....." Substitute United for USA...
