That was a classic example of why I complain about Kinnear subbing. If you bring on Cruz and Appiah early (60-65'?) and take it to them then maybe you wear down Dallas, force them to their end, and get your goal. Cruz was the energentic attacker at the end of the game. Mulrooney did jack-squat and basically points out the tactical bankruptcy Kinnear often has in tight games like this. Sub for a fullback? That's your response to 1-0? Not only would Appiah have been my response then, it would have been my response 10 minutes earlier when they got the red. We lost because we didn't step on the neck of a prone team. And we didn't do that because Dom was too scared to play two kids 20 minutes. All due respect, but those were your attacking options on the roster you set up -- I didn't line up 10 defenders on my bench, you did -- and if you are too conservative to use them in a tight game to turn the tide it's your fault. A coach scared of handling the subs in a way that might give up a goal gives it up anyway. Chase the effin points for a change, sheesh.
This team definitely doesn't have consistency right now. Hopefully we will get it back when everyone is "somewhat" healthy. Hope Robinson is okay. He has had some bum luck lately. Tough to see FCD win for the first time in Houston.
I feel like screaming. It's one thing if you just get beat. It's another to lose on a soft goal (all goals are soft if you give them up with a man advantage) that's against the run-of-play, and you give a lackluster effort offensively. Back line plus Onstad did a good job, but just no spark going forward. Davis was trying to put the team on his shoulders. Landin really frustrated me the entire game, starting with his dive in the first half. And add to everything Eddie's injury... Just ugh.
To me, Landin really needed to step up tonight and show he is not a 1 game wonder. When Ching and Ngwenya come back I have a good feeling he will be packing his bags.
What really disappointed me about Landin was the bad positioning and lack of fight on the goal. I didn't feel like either he or Oduro played that badly, we just deteriorated back into longball mode on offense for long stretches.
A very disappointing game to say the least. What is with the Direct Kick announcers? Very biased toward FC Dallas. ERobs injury was painful to watch. Here's to a better game Saturday. Go Dynamo!!
100% true. Although I thought Landin worked very hard tonite. Westside Breakdown (because I know you are waiting for this): 1) Game seemed destined for 0-0 draw until sloppy defending on that free kick (although I thought it was 50-50 foul call in the first place). 2) I didn't think anyone played very good or very bad - just very average. And certain players (Palmer) never got into the flow. Davis seemed a bit off and really needed to one-time that chance from Landin (use your right foot son!!!) 3) You go up a man at home in a tie game and end up with zero points - that's the kind of result that haunts you later in the season for making the playoffs or seeding. Two home losses already, albeit one to LAG. 4) Cochrane scares me out there. Shaky. 5) For those who want to complain about Dom's subs (and I'm not including the guy with the British accent in the middle of section 204 who was yelling at Dom about getting Cochrane out of there even though we were out of subs), Robinson getting hurt kind of hamstrung him, but I didn't see putting on Mulrooney as additive to the offensive firepower. 6) We're starting to get into the season far enough to get something of a body of work and we're not as bad as the Galaxy, Fire, or even tonite's game and not as good as Chivas and KC at home. We're somewhere in between those performances, but even then we've had key injuries. 7) Those two home games against DC & Philly at the end of the month are looking might big right now to get the full 6 points. 8) Lastly, anyone want to watch a replay of the game and count the number of wasted over-the-top or thru balls? For the love of God, try to build up the attack.
just got home and in no mood to be rational right now. not only did i have to sit and watch a 10 man team from the burbs of hollywood tx come to our house and take the cannon, then i had to sit in traffic forever after 45 south was completely shut down after some one couldn't handle their 5th of may party habits. saturday can't get here fast enough. see you tomorrow. with a headache
I know Cochrane for Robinson impacts how Dom can sub, but does it mean you wait til 70-whatever to put in fresh players on a midweek game? Does it mean you wait til 1-0 down to put in the 3rd sub? And does it mean you put in Mulrooney at that point? Dom is generally a tad cautious with his subs, and I felt it bit him in the butt tonight. This is the game where you pay for the fears like "what if I play two rookies 20 minutes and they make a losing mistake" or "what will this sub do to the defense" or "what if I make that third sub and someone gets hurt," fears that seem to guide Dom most weeks. I mean, the Mulrooney for a defender sub down 1-0 is classic Dom. Rather than push forward Chabala and add a fresh attacker, we sub out a defender and put in a d-mid. Utterly bankrupt. And before people start acting like I am being harsh for one game's result, the same subbing mentality was at work when you respond to Cameron being injured by using Serioux against the Fire. The Fire then took goals 1 and 2 and closed out the game. I just don't believe that bunkering is good strategy. The best defense is a good offense that sits you at the other end of the field, IMO.
That's not bad westside. I agree with most of your post. The only thing I would add is that anyone else think the ref missed a lot of calls?
This is reminiscent of Landin barking at the ref for giving Dallas' defender that soft red, as though there was some higher sanction being withheld. We got the break that should have mattered, but we also had a bad habit most of the night of tugging shirts and professionally fouling on defense, which caught up to us.
It had to happen sooner or later. Sucks that it happened tonight but we weren't going to go undefeated at home against Dallas from here to eternity. Shit happens. Dust yourself off and move on. At least that's what I'm trying to tell myself. As far as the game goes, I don't think there's anything I can say that's even borderline revolutionary. I didn't feel anyone played particularly badly but no one played particularly well either. Landin had some good moments I thought. Davis, IMO, was one of the best players...his inability in front of goal not withstanding.
I thought his consistency was not good, especially on many 50-50 calls. The foul that led to the goal was one of them. There was also this odd, Congressional-hearing type of committee meeting going on in the 1st half when Boswell fouled Ferierra at midfield and Gonzales was trying to figure out whether or not to card him and looked (and talked thru the earpiece) to Anno, then the AR, then back to Anno, then back to the AR - you saw and called the damn foul, its either a card or not. Lastly, and I don't say this lightly, but does it seem like the Hispanic refs don't give Landin any calls and give him a harder time? I know a bunch of the MLS refs are of Hispanic origin (it seems like about 50% of them), but they really seem not to give him much out there.
i just want to know, why was landin marking a man... why wasnt he on the line???... davis missed a couple... i think landin had an ok game.. had a lot of hustle (like oduro) so whats the prob... i think the team is fine.. domK is the man, so with al due respect..stfu sorry, its 5de dynamo..had a few... gawd i hate frisco fc..
Davis had a lot of possession and touches, but didn't do much with it, that's why I thought he seemed off. But it's just one of those nights. Focus on Chivas.
yeah I agree. I don't think the ref was horrible, I just think he missed some influential calls then turn around and badly admonished others. The free kick that led to a goal, but also he missed the one where Oduro got clobbered in the back on a breakaway by #5. I'll have to watch the replay because I was too far away, but it looked like Dallas should if been playing with 10 men sooner than they did. Someone check it out and let me know if my eyes played a trick on me.
I agree he wasn't stellar but he was one of the better players for the Dynamo. He was involved in just about every good attacking move. Not that there were that many or he couldn't have played better but I was relatively impressed. As an aside, I think, thus far, he's 10x better in the attacking mid role then he was last season when he played there a few times.
Just to start, not trying to troll here... This was a match I wanted to see on 5 of May between these two clubs. Possesion aside there was no clear leader, every minute seemed like either club could break open the game. Great match, I do wonder though if loseing Robinson made some difference. I hope it's not serious. Hope El Capitan can be decided in the playoffs!
I know some of you want Landin to be cruxified..I saw him played , he was limping at one point but overall he did pass good and was chasing the ball alot..on my way home, Glen Davis on the radio say Landin was very hard working and was going after the ball alot. Oduro need to learned when to sprint and when not to...and for god sake he need to ball control more..enough say about tonight game.. Look like TA wore some new design " shirt" and it was a good sight to see EB roll their big flag down. I agreed with a few guys saying that Dom should sub a bit early..but then again we do not have any forward on the benches tonight..no Ching, no Joe, no Weaver..it a bit tough on Dom.
Yeah, Benitez had a dirty play on Oduro in the first half. He was sneaky about it, knew exactly what he was doing, and I don't think the ref saw. Was he wearing #5? That might be what you're talking about. But, I'll be honest, I didn't think the ref had a bad game. If you want someone to call the perfect game, then all refs will be terrible. Generally, he let a lot go in this game which may have caused some issues. The biggest gripe that I saw was the foul on Landin in a good spot in the first half, but then the replay showed that it was a good non-call. I didn't mean to sound so harsh on Landin in my first post. He was working hard and doing what he could, but it didn't seem like anything ever connected, which was the frustrating part.
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/soc/6992090.html lol (comment section) the Astros! They will suck until Drayton sells the team. Man, all I need to do is work really hard, get lucky and buy the team from him. I'd offer $450, end up paying $475. A steal... http://www.forbes.com/lists/2006/33/335701.html It was a tad frustrating. Really wanted that cannon. Not a horrid or putrid game, but we should have done better considering the decent chances we had on goal and being up a man. C'est la vie. Barring the ERob injury sub (i tell myself he just jammed his knee), I thought Cruz hustled. Lot tougher to switch to 3 men on the back line when you lose a guy, so some bad luck involved. I'll give dallA$$ credit for good team speed though it was a labor hearing the dull, banal drone that is the announcers for fcd. Even their accents are bland. Ferreria flopped alot (yes landin, threw his right leg at the defender, ref was right there). Benitez was playing a tad dirty (i thought i saw him elbow Oduro in the back? or was it someone else?) Kind of odd we have already played Chivas (after Sat) and fcd twice already, so much for inter-conference rivalry to finish the season off. Single table on the way or just odd/bad scheduling due to world cup? Damn, I wanted that cannon... http://www.house.gov/paul/congrec/congrec2000/cr092700.htm
we have two cups!!!!!! we are better than them in every way on any day. they beat us, well done to them. we still have two cups.
