I'm not sure what I think here. We need a striker -- hell, virtually any striker. The larger question is whether this is a wedding of convenience or something of a mea culpa by the brain(less) trust.
The club is actively searching overseas for attacking help -- technical director Chad Ashton is in South America this week -- and positioning itself for a possible major acquisition when the international transfer window re-opens in mid-July.
Or both. It is CERTAINLY a mea culpa. It's total capitulation to the fact that the management absolutely and completely screwed the pooch in the offseason.
Eh. If we've got nothing else out there, and if the price is right, sure. This won't win us many extra games, but this doesn't cover up for the fact that Kasper had ZERO ideas from October of last year until now for what to do about our forward situation. R.
Reposting from the other thread . . .I have no idea whether this is a prudent move for this organization at this very specific time, with the issues we face at this very specific time. What I do know, though, is that it smells to me like the actions of an organization that is out of ideas, that doesn't know what else to do.
This bridges the gap (at a very low cost) until July, the first good chance for us to pick up international talent without paying a transfer fee. Good move for both parties.
I was just about to post the same questions, particularly since Kasper already jinxed the situation "Asked why United decided to reverse course and reacquire Emilio, Kasper cited the player's lower salary demand and recent hamstring injuries to forwards Chris Pontius and Danny Allsopp."
I don't want to completely defend the FO on this one, but remember that United's roster is looking more and more like a trauma ward every day. You can't say it's a mea culpa - the FO's plan almost certainly didn't involve both Pontius and Allsopp getting injured. I'd argue those are what brought Luci back into the picture.
Or it smells like a player who is out of work, wants a place in this league, and is willing to show he can still earn one while making next to nothing for three months. Even a team that's doing well might take a guy with his pedigree up on that offer. No reason why an 0-4 team with injury problems shouldn't.
So true. You'll find fewer people around here who defend Emilio like I do. He was undeappreciated during nearly his entire tenure here (I could even make the argument that he was underpaid on the whole), and I've taken to responding to every third post that refers to him as a "goal poacher" when the vast majority of his goals required either a skilled touch, some decent dribbling, a yowza finish, or a combination of the above. But this kind of break-up/make-up move rarely works, and I doubt it will work now. We don't have Gomez and Gallardo, which means we're going to need a Jaime/Santino to really work magic as a withdrawn forward, and I think we all agree we need more speed up top than we'll get from a pairing of Luci/Jaime. If Allsopp is hurt and unable to play Saturday, then I'll buy this as a short-term fix--otherwise, we need to start Allsopp for a few straight games and see what he has, and we need to play the forwards and midfielders who've practiced and played together for two months. We need a healthy center back, and we need one yesterday. Kyle Sheldon's doomsday economics-be-damned, if we have $$ for Luci, we have $$ for a defender, and we need some real help until Namoff and Jacovic are back. That said...please don't call Luci a "goal poacher"--thanks in advance.
