I agree with completely, except that I'm not sure that it was so much that we were "found out" as it was the injuries you reference. Losing Conde and Segares (for most of the year) really changed the focus. Having said that, it was frustrating to see what could be for one half and then end up walking away from games with one or no points, even when we were healthy.
Was it a dead ball waiting for a restart, or had the ref stopped play to have the trainers help an injured player (as the posted pointed out)? If the ref stopped play for the reson the original poster said, there was no danger of a quick restart.
Told me "I don't know, just taking it day to day, who knows." I like what he told you more than what he told me.
I think Denis had the team play some great soccer at the beginning of 2008. That 2008 team was flat out dominant at times, especially at the beginning of the year. NY RedBulls we didn't have one dominant performance last year, with possibly the NE home playoff game being the possible lone exception, although that was a game we won in the last 10 minutes. The KC game had the best half of soccer Chicago played all year, that's about it.
We also dominated the home Seattle and Houston games. Yet, we somehow came away with a draw and a loss, respectively.
Seattle was the game I was trying to think of in addition to NE early last season. Thank you. That first half against Seattle was some of the best soccer I have ever seen the Fire play. To walk out of that stadium with a draw was deflating to say the least. My original point was that we did play good soccer pre-CdlC. It just wasn't a consistent display. Even with Blanco. There were times we were great with him and times it seemed we were better without him. Just when you thought we might be better in the long run without him, he would come back and lift the whole team. Just a frustrating season that once again put us on the verge of a title to end up falling short.
That's right. He went up for a header and caught the back of a Houston player's head earlier in the game. He got the worst of it, but the DynaSchmuck went down in a heap.
i know but there's barely an accent. he was laughing about how he started talking to a guy in Spanish since he was Mexican and the dude told him, "what?!"
This was my 1st game I was at this year and it was well played and the team was playing positive soccer. Glad to get the W. Not sure what you guys are talking about with John I watched him chase players down the sideline hoping for a mid to push up and help him close done the angle but none did. John though is a forward and all I really care about is his ability to score goals.
You aren't talking about the summer game away to Seattle are you? I was at that game, and the Fire were totally 100% dominated by Seattle, and only through amazing luck did we get a draw. I'm guessing you are takling about a home game against Seattle that I don't really remember well.
What I want to know is how Krol got so lucky to be walking around with the hot girl, I mean that is bad incentives; you get a red card and get the hot girl! Next game half the team is going to get red carded! Did anyone take a picture of her?
The first half of the home game. You would be hard pressed to find 45 minutes of soccer where we have ever looked better. . . . . except for finishing. Their midfield should have been wearing bright orange instead of puke green because we were pinging the ball around and past them like traffic cones. We still looked ok in the second half but not near as dominate. Then we let in a couple of soft goals for the tie. They may have been off set pieces.
It was a 1-1 tie. Their goal came on a corner kick where Tyrone Marshall was left wide open at back post. If I remember correctly, he's was Ward's man on the play.
Oh now I DO remember that, and yes I agree, we dominated that one, and totally blew it at the end. That was also the game where Jaqua injured Segares after Montero got red carded for elbowing Segares. IIRC, Zigi and Jaqua both accused Segares of faking it. ???
Guess he lied to you. OUT: FW Calen Carr (R quad strain); DF Steven Kinney (L hamstring strain); MF John Thorrington (L quad strain);
Joe lies.... Joe lies... when he cries. Sorry, couldn't help but toss out a Say Anything reference. What's the backstory, if any, with Carr and Thor? I saw Carr working out and going through exercises with the trainer on the field before the home opener a few weeks ago. He looked pretty good then. Maybe I need to do some sleuthing.
