True, but it's not exactly a bad thing to have some depth. I'm assuming we still have the cap space to sign a DP (Blanco if he decides to come back), so if we have a few Salvadoran NT players at depth, I don't see the problem. And we haven't exactly seen enough of them to be able to completely write them off (as so many seem to be doing).
A) he wasn't signed to be depth. I don't think, anyway. I think we all were under the impression that he would be our starting right mid; B) He might not be good enough to count as depth. I base this on three things. First, the game we did see, he looked absolutely lost and ineffective. Second, CdlC has given people a chance after poor games, including Pause, McBride and Pappa. He isn't even including Martinez on the subs bench these days after one poor game. Finally, I believe I remember Bunge saying that he was not very good in practice; and C) he counts as an international slot as well as salary. To me, its just a waste to use your spots like this. There are plenty of decent Americans you can sign as cover for your starters without wasting a higher salary and an international slot for someone on your bench. That is also why I wasn't a big fan of signing two international left backs.
Very well put. I think that CDLC might have underestimated the level of MLS, maybe thinking it is a slightly better version of the El Salvador league. Therefore, to him, Martinez would have been able to slot right in. I hate wasting roster spots on pet projects like this. Umanzor looked like he had never played left back in his lone start. In short, "his" guys look like pretty weak sauce. The good news is that he is not stubborn enough to keep playing his pet projects, unlike, say, Bob Bradley who constantly includes the likes of Bornstein and Johnson (and you can include Guzan too).
I'm happy to give him a couple of mulligans on signings. I think he has used those now. Assuming they were non-guaranteed contracts or one year deals, its not the end of the world. I do think we did CdlC a disservice by not getting him signed up in advance of the MLS combine. I think he could have gotten a better sense of the quality of young players available here before he started signing foreign players. I think we still have cap room and an international slot or two, so no harm no foul for the most part.
Yep. CDLC is out of mulligans. Umanzor must have been signed for depth reasons because I have seen no evidence of Krol's alleged slowness. But then, why waste an international spot on a back-up? Same thing with Martinez.

Attendance may take a big hit due to weather this weekend. Both of them were underwhelming in their first games, but that's not enough to evaluate them. If they're not looking good in training, then that's not a good sign, but I just don't see the problem with having them around this year as added depth, even if that's not what they were brought here to provide. Who do you think should be ahead of Guzan? Hahnemann maybe, but this is his last WC cycle. I'd take Guzan over Perkins or Rimando at this point. I agree with you on Johnson (I'm sick of seeing him on the US roster), but it's not like the US has a wealth of talented players at the left back position to replace Bornstein.
Not that one would know it from having watched the LA game, but Houston Dynamo is actually off to the best start of its existence as such. I hope your people bring flares and they show them on TV.
got to say, as a former SJ Clash fan from my NorCal days, I have a bit of a soft spot for 1836, but who did you guys get to replace Holden, Clark and now Ching? Generally losing your 3 best players degrades a team a bit.
This Old Man, [Onstad] He Told Me, We Share a field with a Football team, With no Stu no Ric no Ching over-the-hump His whole town smells like a dump.
So is the game on CSN, My50 or both, dishnetwork guide has it on both. It would be nice to have a website that tells you what channel the games will be on. According the FIRE's website (schedule) we don't even have a game this Saturday.
The Fire gave free game tickets if you recycled old electronics. The person who took the electronics was pretty disappointed at how few people where cashing in on that deal. She must have had a thousand or more coupons that never got claimed. I wasn't surprised because the offer was extremely under advertised. Also, she would not accept a 40 of OE as a bribe for the remaining coupons.
When I click on the schedule tag there are only 2 April games on the schedule April 3rd and April 10th. On dishnetworks guide it has the game on CSN and My50.
living here in indy, i dont get Comcast Sportsnet, and apparently Comcast doesnt carry it where i live. Still, i have MDL, and the Fire games are not showing up on it despite being advertised on there, b/c they tell me its on tv in my area. im tired of looking for links, and simply want the service i paid $40 for to work properly. Im contacting MLS about it. Does anyone outside of the chicago area have this problem??
