No-but I did see them cheering madly at the MLS Cup in the Nordecke West section though.

And Robbie does have some good looking sisters from what I saw.

    Case in point.

Also see: Claudio Taffarel for Brazil.

I just looked at that 2005 Championship team and seriously...

    Of the 11 eleven starters:

Five were Seniors who had taken the Terps to the Semi-Finals the prior three years (twice losing to the eventual champions by one goal margins).

Seven were eventual MLS Superdraft picks. Two were First Round draftees (actually drafted #1 and #4 in the same year). Two were Second Round draftees, two were Third Round and one was a Fourth Round.

Two players were MLS Supplemental Draft picks.

    One (Robert) went to Europe.

One I could not find anything on in a quick check (David Glaudemans - Defender)

Some of the names wearing the Terps jersey that day:
    Chris Seitz
    Stephen King
    Robbie Rogers
    Jason Garey
    Maurice Edu
    Marc Burch

If Robbie had come into a team that had marginal performance in the past and suddenly the Terps won it all, I might be more inclined to believe it was his performance that elevated the team but I think you could have plugged in a lot of other guys that play college soccer and a good chance that the Terps win it all still. So in the case of Maryland, it may have been about being at the right place, right time.

I wish....it would be nice to have a kid playing pro soccer. The closet I got was my daugthter who would have played in College if you had not torn an ACL.

Thats was a good team. Garey was the leader by the way. Burch made the game winner if I recall correctly. But didn't a lot of these same posters trash Burch while he was with the Crew?

No. Burch bashing began when he refused to take a dev contract from the Crew and accept a move to LB, then he requested a trade to DC where he took a dev contract and moved to LB.

But hey in hindsight we shouldn't have been so tough on the guy. Afterall he was doing us a favor; turns out that was a win for the Crew because Burch is a horribe defender.

My ACL had nothing to do with your daughter not playing college ball.

Or did he sit way too far back in midfield despite his coaches yelling at him to push up which made Guille have to push farther forward, wait too long to take a player on or refuse to do so all together, and attempt almoast a third less shots then he did the previous year?

Funny thing is, you go on and on about Brad Evans and his effect on Rogers and this team. Yet when Evans started, Rogers had exactly 1 goal and 2 assists.

I don't know what kind of year he'll have, but you are right here. Rogers is playing much higher then he did last year and he's much more willing to take players on, just needs to work on the final ball. Hopefully this translate to production for him.

What does Edson Buddle's performance (past, present, and future) have to do with our discussion concerning Robbie? Or is it just another attempt to obfuscate the issue?

umm...wow to this thread. wasn't this topic discussed elsewhere on here? maybe Rogers doesn't want to be in Columbus and he rather be in LA closer to his family.

The point is players have there ups and downs and ups. Some fans are sunny day fans only. If it rains on Saturday you will see what I mean kind of.

Stop being an idiot. Seriously. Stop it.

scornflakes deserves a whole pile of rep for summing up the issue pretty much perfectly.

The two-headed trolling action is getting tiresome.

You are entitled to your opinion as is everyone else. You rep scorn because you agree with him and thats fine.

The point is that some players have a three year gig in Columbus. Buddle was the sceond coming in 2003. 2004 he had injuries. 2004 he was trashed as being inconsistent and because he got a DUI. 2005 he was trashed some more and traded. If the Crew had stuck with the player they would have had the striker they sorely needed.

Players have ups and downs and ups again. Thats the way things go with young players. I am just not into the three year plan like some posters are.

You know the interesting thing about Buddle is, except '05, he improved his production every single year from the previous year. The big question with Buddle has always been his desire. I don't know many around here that questioned his ability as a goal scorer. I always said he's the love child of McBride and Cunningham; good at holding the ball up, decent passer, good on the ball, makes good runs off it, decent in the air, he had good speed until Franchino decided to break his ankle in the '02 playoffs. All the tools are right there.

Unfortunatly for him, he got here at the time of the bearded idiot and was allowed to be a founding member of the Party Crew. He tried that routine around Sigi and...

I'm not at all surprised that when Buddle decided he wanted to be a professional in '08, that things started to turn around for him. It probably helped when he got a good look at retiring at 26 like his good friend Martino. Unfortunatly for him and the US Nat team, '09 was injury plagued.

Of course what's making Edson Buddle a success now has nothing to do with Rogers current problems. Buddle has talent, knows what to do with that talent, but refused to get out of his own way for several years. At every point though Buddle was a forward's forward.

Rogers has talent and the desire to use that talent, but no idea what in the world to do with it. He's not a good passer, not a good crosser, and makes horrid decisions around the 18. Rogers fails because he's not a good soccer player right now.

Actually, I didn't even try. I said he deserves a pile of rep, but I didn't rep him. I agree with him, that's for sure.

He tore it up before the league figured him out.

    Because he was.

He proved that he couldn't (at the time) handle himself off the field.

You're buying into the often-bought-into fallacy that every effect would still occur even if a possibly transformative cause was completely different. That's amateur hour, Slick.

What you're into is riding Rodney's meat pole regardless of his actual performance. There's no Force that needs to be balanced. It's OK to STFU when Rodney disappoints.

OK I've decided which camp I'm in and thank you especially to mmradio13, scornflakes, crewbeat, and draghignazzo for your insight (I’m in the camp that thinks Robbie has to step it up and return to reaching his potential). In regards to the discussion about Robbie either single handedly winning the NCAA/Cups/etc or cost the Crew the season, I know I haven’t watched much of Robbie or the MLS or the Crew but I have played, watched, and coached plenty of soccer to come to the conclusion that one player can’t single handedly win anything for a team (closest that is possible is Messi & Rooney but yet neither one of those two’s national teams will win the World Cup so its not possible plus where was Messi against Inter or Rooney against some of those early season defeats) nor can they single handedly be responsible for losing a game (although I do believe that this is much easier to get closer to then the other option). Ok rant over and now…I thoroughly apologize for this being my first thread to enter the Crew world, I should have thought better, I’m sorry (slowly backing out of the room)

Buddle's DUI was in '05 not '04 and he was traded in '06 by Sigi mostly for off the pitch reasons.

I don't remember Buddle being trashed in '04(well...you know what I mean). A little in '05 but then he didn't perform.

Of course none of this matters because we can bitch and moan about players as much as we want, we can praise players as much as we want; that has nothing to do with who the Crew keep or get rid of.

Oh and Rogers isn't a young player. He's 22, and in his 5th professional year.

Its always nice to have an interesting thread-there is nothing to apologize about. Fortunately the Crew has a number of interesting posters and has a number of excellant blogs as well!

Welcome to the world of the moderately sane.
See Missionary, even the n00bs can see behind the curtain.
This thread has been fantastic, and a much needed diversion after a second early season bye week. If people have not repped you for starting it yet, they should just to show you how much win you caused. Also, for a first thread you failed to completely embarrass yourself so you were way ahead of the pack from jump right there.

Just start growing a thick skin, and make sure to dish out as much as you take and you'll be fine around here.

Oh yeah, and tits or GTFO!
