Honestly dianamo, I'd do the same thing. Now, if I got 10K severance down here, I'd be gone in a heartbeat. But Cali's a whole different story. I could make 10k last a good ... 10-11 months here in rural Ga. If nothing else, the new position will give you a chance to start feeling out the market. If it's truly bad, you'll have a job to at least help pay the bills. If it's decent, then you should be out of there pretty quick, hopefully to something that pays similar (maybe even better) the job you have now. Good luck!
Considering that I'm the solely income provider for my parents, I decided to stay on the company So I took the pay cut; kind of... I was able to negotiate ruthlessly with the Executive Director; this is what I got: -I get to stay on my same position with the same salary until May 1 -At that point, I will be moving to a different position, more 9-5 hours, less responsibility, no work to take home, and a 6 months "subsidy"; basically, I'll be making the same amount I was making but on a different position. -Once the 6 months are over, If I haven't found another job out of the organization, and nothing that pays more within the organization is available, I will make 30% less of that I'm currently making. - I sold 150 hours of my vacation at my actual rate. -I'm bailing from work today and friday to mourn my "loss of managerial status" And of course, I will be actively looking for a better paid job; but at least I have time, and money for the next six months; which I wouldn't be able to have if I had taken the 10K.
Damn. That's not a bad deal at all. My company would hand me a paycut effective immediately, or a severance check, again, immediately, and that would be that.
I re-read my message... I can see how it was misleading. I meant to say the last time I was let-go... Sorry for any confusion, but I can be a confusing fellow at times.
Yes. I have a lil gig at the library but b/c I'm on max credit hours this semester I don't really work too often.
Yeah, those students who work at the library have a sweet deal. Just do their homework while you check student IDs. That's all I've seen them do.
I wish I would have applied for that job. I work stacks, so I have to sight read all the books in my section, "fluff them," and put back those that are missplaced. Mind you our library is the 2nd largest in the state. I think I'll just apply to be the personal assistant of the Pineapple Princess. hahaha Seriously I'm going to get a legit job and work like a dog this summer so I can pay back these loans.
Live sucks at work, (well, kind of) but I'm going to "Carmel by the Sea" tonight! I'm dropping a friend's daughter there (her mom is already there) I'm driving her mini-cooper convertible (mind you.. the flipping thing is ORANGE) full tank of gas, + $200 bucks for doing her this favor and i get to keep the car until Sunday evening. I'm thinking on staying on the Monterrey area tonight, spend the day around there tomorrow and drive back north to Hayward for the FCGP game at 7:00 p.m. Does anybody live on the area?? Looking for a couch to crash in case I can't find a hotel for tonight. I'm going to nickname this car "the flying orange"!!!!
Oh so you'll get to behold the Pineapple Princess' goals live and in color? Mookie is pleased. Oh I heard Marta might be there too.
Oh, geez, I spent years doing that for my local public library (that and reshelving returned books). On the other hand, I pretty much know the Dewey Decimal System by heart!
We do library of congress system. I've worked there for a while and have still not been in every single nook and cranie(sp) of that place. I came here because I have a confession to make...........I think that a certain kleptomaniac fox from a children's show that I can not stop watching, is absolutely adorable.
