Flights canceled across Europe and causing massive disruptions of travel... Hadn't thought about this but I guess the ash cloud is drifting into the major flight lanes...this will be a shit show to get back on track if this drags on fro days/weeks
Same thing happened with Alaska recently, shut down most of the flights north of San Francisco. Iceland is on the flight path of just about 90% of transatlantic flights.
Transatlantic flights are fine though because the flight route can be switched to the south (losing a few minutes, but whatever). The bigger trouble is the cloud preventing planes from landing or taking off.
Volcanos, earthquakes all over the place, a big meteor shooting over the midwest... it's gonna be a fun ride to 2012.
So you have noticed that uptick as well huh? I thought about starting a thread on the subject just for sh*ts & giggles. Something like your last sentence for a thread title. Then we can all have fun tracking the wacky weather/geologic/extraterrestrial activity! I'm currently waiting for the Juan De Fuca plate to throw me and the rest of Puget Sound to the moon.
Except Keflavík International Airport which is open because it is west of the volcano. Iceland to the rest of Europe, who want Iceland to take on the debts of their failed banks: Kiss my ash.
Where ever I go I hope there's RUM! [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxuaUaS4rU0"]YouTube- Volcano - Jimmy Buffett[/ame]
The jet stream is sitting right on top of Iceland and flowing directly down to Great Britain and the northern Europe... http://www.latimes.com/news/nationw...g-volcano-flights17-2010apr17,0,3371114.story
Volcano Alert: Thousands Of Intense Earthquakes Rock Iceland Thousands of small intense earthquakes are rocking Iceland amid concerns that one of the country's volcanoes may be close to erupting. Iceland has raised its aviation alert level for the risk of a possible volcanic eruption to orange — the second-most severe level. The alert is worrisome because of the chaos that followed the April 2010 eruption of Eyjafjallajokul, when more than 100,000 flights were cancelled because volcanic ash floating in the atmosphere is considered an aviation safety hazard. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/...ert_n_5691826.html?ncid=fcbklnkushpmg00000014
