Hey I'm with you, especially seeing as SL is usually a weeknight thing. I'm just passing along what Bilello had said earlier. Just don't be surprised if it doesn't happen.
It makes a lot of sense for them to have a superliga game at Harvard or any place in Boston since it only draws like 6k anyways
It's also a test market for the (whisper it) legend of the Boston area SSS. If Boston people can't get their asses to Nickerson or Harvard it will say something about the interest in the team in the city. It's especially relevant since Superliga will be during the World Cup break, general awareness of the sport will be at its 4-year cyclical height and the opposition is international (maybe appealing to the 'eurosnob' people who think little of MLS).
Ives has the dates for the USOC qualification matches. NY host PHI on April 27th, and the winner of that match hosts the Revs on May 12th. The winner of the May 12th match takes on the winner of the COL-KC match (Apr 13th), which must take place before the end of May. We already have 6 games in 5 weeks during May. This adds at least one and possibly two more.
We means it's less and less likely that we'll play a non-MLS team, which is a shame I think, since we already play MLS teams on a regular basis (albeit, less than we used to).
if anyone is interested in joining a small private usoc prediction pool for 2010.....please see the thread below. usoc pool 2010
With the depth the team has, if they put anything into this at all, this team has a chance to be in the fourth round (I believe they're coming in at the round of 16 or is 32?) very easily. Damn it ... they're sucking me back in.
Lets hope we host and it's held in Boston. Kind of along the same lines, have their been any SuperLiga announcements? Is it still happening?
I couldn't find a complete bracket anywhere, but presumably we could meet a non-MLS team in the later rounds, if we get that far.
there is no complete bracket anywhere yet. in fact, it's going to be a bit wierd b/c there are less lower div u.s. teams than there are 'usual slots' (given the format they've been using for the past few years)....meaning there were usually 32 lower div teams that would play down to 8 that would meet the mls sides. this year, seems like there is only 31. the format/bracket for them hasn't been announced b/c they won't even start til june likely. but, of course, it's expected....mls teams will go into the 3rd round like usual to meet lower div teams
COL eliminates KC, 2-1. RSL knocks out SJ on PKs 3-3(5-3), advance to next round vs winner of DAL/DCU. Next qualification game is PHI @ NY (Apr 27), the DAL @ DCU (Apr 28). NE plays PHI/NY winner on May 12. Winner of that match faces COL.
Have they announced where the game will be yet? If my memory serves me correctly USOC games can't be held in the home stadium but at another quasi-neutral location.
New York Red Bulls edge Philadelphia Union 2-1 to move on in US Open Cup qualifying NEXT ROUND New York hosts New England at Red Bull Arena on May 12, 8 p.m.
They can be played wherever the home team chooses. USOC games have been played at Gillette. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but don't teams bid to host matches?
Yes. You are correct sir! And after we beat NYRB we will host Colorado... they haven't said where yet, I'd assume NOT Gillette. Probably New Britain, but hopefully Harvard or Lusitano Stadium
An 8pm kickoff allows for a bit more travel time down to Harrison as well.... A good trial run for the weeknight trip down 95S in October!
They bid to host the actual USOC matches. The play-in game locations are determined by coin flip. (That's totally backwards to me, as the play-in games are already being decided based on last year's standings so last year's standings should also be used to determine host like every other American knockout competition, while the actual USOC should be done by coin flip)
