Since they are now in Wyandotte county, I'd change that to just "Kansas Football Club." . . . . . Original recipe or extra crispy?
Kansas City has already built a solid history and a great supporter group. They have had success in the past and have a growing fan base. If you're already successful, then why should you change your name? Any calls for this kind of change are coming from outsiders who just don't like the name "Wizards." Does the "Galaxy" sound as legitimate and professional as the New York Yankees or Manchester United? No, but they have history, they have success. Now, I could understand some modifications. Teams do it all the time when they are heading into a new era. The Galaxy changed their jerseys and crest when Beckham arrived; the Cleveland Cavaliers re-did everything for the Lebron James era. I wouldn't mind seeing a new crest and jersey design for the new Wizards. But "Kansas City," "Wizards," and the "Cauldron" are all here to stay, and for good reason.
Yep. Amazing how many fans of other teams are desperate to rename our team. Did I ever tell you how I hated "Sachin"? It sounds foreign. Have you ever thought of going by "Steve", instead?
Now, don't know why you put the "Kansas City" in quotes, but anyway The only reason it would ever change is if some analysis was done and determined that the names Wizards/Cauldron/etc. were a barrier to the acquisition/acceptance/etc. of new fans and to such an extent that it outweighs the potential alienation of existing fans... or possibly because it was determined that the brand of the "Wizards" was a liability, possibly due to some negative connotation that had been associated to it (which does not exist AFAIK) or that the brand was so undefined and not 'bringing anything to the table' and trying to redefine the brand of the "Wizards" was that much more difficult than creating a new one.
Well, there were KKK grand wizards, but if that wasn't enough to stop the rebranding of the Bullets to the Wizards in majority-black Washington, DC, then it shouldn't be a problem elsewhere.
Steel signing ceremony next weekend. Season ticket holders have been invited to sign the commemorative first piece of steel before the KC-Colorado game next weekend, then witness it being raised. Not sure how fast other SSS's have been built, but the first piece of steel is going up about 3 months after construction started. Pretty amazing.
The first steel beam went up tonight before the game. The STH's got the sign the beam as well. Obviously, signing the beam allowed us access to the site. It's impressive how much work has gotten done. The stadium is coming along quicker than we ever could have imagined.
Big thanks to D.B.M. for signing my name as well! I might have the only forged signature on the steel beam. He told me he even spelled it right. I wish I could've been there!
More Stadium Pr0n. I'm pretty sure we've seen the first one before, not sure about the second. Found them on The Offside.
Turns out I was wrong. Good of Sam to put some fans names on there when they couldn't be there. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcYaG_cH6og"]YouTube- Steel Signing at Wizards Stadium Site[/ame]
Every stadium built for MLS has been great in one way or another, but this place looks totally awesome. Congrats to the OnGoal ownership group for having the vision and guts to go for something that will be spectacular, putting their money where their mouths are. For a club that once was the butt of relocation jokes to now have this gem waiting for them, what a turnaround! Hopefully the fans will come out in droves and in two years we will wonder why they did not make it bigger. (That roof is great. Imagine if Frisco and BMO had full roofs? In Dallas' case they need to fill the place first, and in TFC's case they may need to expand the joint first, but what a difference they would make, IMHO).
The roof will only amplify the sound if a light rail extension is built into Kansas with a station at the new stadium to attact potential ultras who live in downtown Kansas City and traveling ultras from downtown Dallas who transfer at the central train station.
You can't even get from Dallas to KC on a train, so that pretty much screws the whole deal. Such a pity for MLS, they were this close to making it work....
