Declarations of a "Clash 2.0" are greatly premature.

As I wrote elsewhere, let's wait for a bit to actually see what kind of team we have. [IMG]

    well done Ike.

    Fire Yallop and Doyle!

Quincy would have made it 3-1.

I vote for Glen for MOTM. His "dive and roll" came at a critical moment of the match and definitely qualified for Oscar status...

    Whoops - forgot the :D

Any one who was lucky enough to see all the action feel free to sum up how the game went. I only managed to get a feed from right after the last goal. So I saw the quakes with exactly zero possession and I was hoping that that was just at the end. Or did the Fire put the ball in their own net?

I'm still scratching my head as to why a 3rd sub wasn't used to kill time at the end there.

Didn't watch it but I listened to it and from John Schrader's voice, it seemed the Quakes played with a lot more fire in them. Either they read how mad we all were on BS this week or someone lit a candle under them. I'm sure the midweek trade of Quincy made everyone shake! Good job Quakes and good win. Can not wait to watch the replay tonight!

Honestly, in the blush of a win it would be easy to say Clash 2.0 is over, but I thought the Quakes looked very shaky. The Fire had two goals blown in the first half, Hernandez took another one away in the second and Cannon and Ike almost teamed up for a 4th. Chicago is not a very good team at this point; a better team would have buried the Quakes. So that said, we are not the worst team in MLS as of right now and 3 points on the road are always sweet!

Watched the last 20 minutes or so. Our play is unimpressive and boring to watch - 3 points gained by 1 good play + pure luck.

Everyone worked hard and played smart for the most part. Ryan Johnson had a poor match. Convey had too many mistakes, but he worked harder than anyone which means the boo-boos should be forgiven. Ike needs to work on not giving it away when he passes out of the back, but his defense was mostly reliable (except for a couple of poor decisions again), and his goal was beautiful. Gjertson worked hard--can't fault his effort or his performance. Sanchez looked solid in limited minutes and as I recall started the play that lead to the 2nd goal. Beta is a work in progress, but we shouldn't be at all disappointed with his first start. ALM seemed to take this game more seriously, but still didn't run enough for my tastes. They should have subbed out Alvarez near the end as he was too tired. Is Eduardo a real person? Jason saved our bacon and might well be MOTM just for that one amazing play! We bunkered too much near the end but played bravely.

I'm not saying that the chance of them being a "Clash 2.0" is necessarily over, but rather that it's still too early to definitively declare them "Clash 2.0".

Among other things, let's see how much Eduardo Adelino da Silva and Scott Sealy will add to the mix. :)

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

Def. the MOTM, because of Jason we are coming back with 3 points and not with only one. ;)

And it was the first Chicago Fire home opening loss in Toyota Park history, to boot! :D

He got burned by speed a few times early that made us very nervous, but got better as the match wore on. On balance, I'd say good game, not great. Convey was a contributor to defense on that side and Opara's speed helps over there too.

& only their 2nd win overall in Chicago in the last 10 years...last win according to JS was a shootout victory by the Clash in 1999.

I didn't hear it talked about on the radio broadcast, but Gjertsen surely deserves some credit for pressuring the ball so hard, creating the chance that Alvarez put away.

Good to see a few bounces go our way this time :)

Truly a lucky win, but 3 points is 3 points nonetheless. Opara should push up more often so he doesn't risk knocking the ball into his own net again. Quakes really played flimsy football for most of the match, but Chicago failed to capitalize. They look somewhat lost w/o Blanco. And why exactly did they release Jon Busch? Their new keeper is awful.

I don't know what's better....how many people went out of MLS Survivor this week due to the Quakes or the deflation of BS Fire fans in their game thread considering how cocky and sure they'd win that they were in the pre-game?

I mostly agree with this view of how we played. We pressured the ball much better than before. I thought Ike was very shaky at times and nearly cost us the game with turnovers in our defensive 3rd. He really needs to work on that part of the game. He had a good header for our second goal, but Convey delivered a nice cross to him and deserves part of the credit.

My MOTH is Hernandez for his stopping what would have been Chicago's 2nd goal, at a critical moment. He was smart to get in the goal mouth, and an incredible reflex to divert a sure goal.

Everyone played much better, but I think this team needs to still make more improvements. We played just good enough today, but I think we are capable of making the playoffs. Really.

Gjertsen certainly used Toyota Park's ideal 75x120 yards playing field (within the lines) very well, as an outside mid on a team built mainly for wing play would be wont to do.

There was certainly the proper amount of space there for him to do so, after all. [IMG]
