In that case, I say we sign the first DP defender -- this guy:

This is still just a wish list, right?

Anywho, Riise could contribute a lot to the RSL offense, even if he's not scoring goals. And since he's such a ridiculously gigantic international superstar, he's a perfect choice for a DP.

As much as I hate not having wings Kreis has shown his system will work.
In the future, though, I would hope we actually use some width

And who would provide more width than Norway's favorite left back?

Irrelevant. He would not put butts in the seats. Nobody in the valley knows who he is who isn't already coming to the games. Or, at least not more than a few hundred people.

After watching the two champions league matches the past two days,
I think I would wish for Messi and Robbin.

Kaka is EXTREMELY overrated. Come on 15, i know he played for your beloved AC Milan, but really? He's a tool.

    No love for Piennar? Anyone?

Yes, he is overrated because he's only able to be effective in systems that are designed around him. Being called overrated doesn't mean he's garbage - he's still an amazing player - but he isn't worth the money Real paid for him and he's definitely not one of the top 5 players in the world, which people often lump him in to.

Except that to be a successful DP you wouldn't have to be a top-5 player in the world. The best DP in MLS (GBS) isn't a top-5 player today by any stretch of the imagination. Kaka may be overrated, but he's still got more than enough quality to tear this league apart.

Of course, this whole discussion is academic anyway because there's no way RSL would go after him and no way he would accept an offer.

because he doesnt fit into the spainish system he isnt a top player? Thats a big harsh dont ya think. I wanna see Messi be so effective NOT on Barcelona (which is built around him) in the EPL.

This is a meaningless argument though... Remember the last guy that struggled at Madrid and then came here to the states? Could Kaka be the next (I doubt it) or will it be another "struggling player" on los blancos?

Eh, not really arguing that Kaka would EVER come to RSL (at least not in the near future...AKA before he has bad knees, no motivation, etc :) ), just pointing out that just because someone is perceived as the "keystone" to a powerhouse national team doesn't mean that they're not overrated - that's it. I agree that Messi benefits from the system and the way the league plays... no argument there. I've just always felt like people traditionally give Kaka WAYYYY to much love and credit. But alas, here we are in an RSL message board - so I digress...

And I am a Milan fan and wishing we had his services and thus winning ways (in champions league at least) back...

Did you see the mexican kid that got signed by Man U? That is great for CONCACAF... but horribe news for the yanks.
I really think we should turn our focuses to Mexico in this discussion. Either a star in their league or a mexican star that is playing somewhere else

I wouldn't mind seeing Giovani Dos Santos in an RSL kit. Don't like seeing him in a Mexico kit, but an RSL kit would be nice. Kid's got talent.

Ha! Dos Santos would absolutely slaughter MLS opposition. Would love to see that happen, even if he didn't play for RSL.

as much as it pains me to say this, that kid is likely to be the best player in CONCACAF during the next world cup cycle. I am really looking forward to him and Charlie Davies battle it out for top dog.

What club is Giovanni at right now? Its a mexican one correct?
