Will this happen? If so? who? I think it has to. The tickets are not selling. THey need to make a big splash in the boston market. The revs have been an afterthought for a couple years now. Too bad. I donno if it will happen but can they make a splash. Kraft says he has 5 million hanging out at the MLS front office collecting interest from the Transfer of Clint Dempsey. Who Do you want to see a Revs because it will Probably happen by the World Cup. It wil get me back to Foxboro that is for sure. I want Robbie Keane... but I doubt that happens. Could we get someone like him?
Reading the Globe article, it seems pretty clear that "DP" will continue to stand for "draft picks" in New England. When you can't find jerseys for sale in the city, the owner's son can't be bothered to say (to a former employee!) that he came to talk soccer, and the same failed marketing schemes are being rolled out for a 2nd year...don't hold your breath man.
i agree with what your saying but something has to be done if they still want fans to come out to games. its not going to happen with the way this team is constituted. they have to come up with something otherwise i wouldn't be suprised if we see less than 10K average for the year. The toy that robert kraft has let his kids play with is about to be taken away from them.
besides it costs the revs about 30k just to turn the lights on for game night. can't be all too keen losing sooooo much money even though its a nice tax right off. bring in a robbie keane and attendance will go up 3 fold. if it doesn't... then lets talk about getting rid of the tam as we wouldn' deserve one anymore.
Unless I hear Don Garber call out the Krafts like he has DC politicians then I highly doubt anything is going to change. The Revs are a nice little side proejct to put into their privately-funded stadium while the Pats are in their offseason that also happen to be a tax writeoff. There is no sign of any sense of urgency from Jonathan Kraft and why would there be? It isn't like the media is paying attention... We're the fans, of course to us it seems like something "has" to happen. It never does. Didn't in '09 after in '08 when we drew a little over 5K in the home leg of the playoffs. Didn't this year after we drew 7K in the same home leg.
As I always say, a loss covered by 1 day of sales in the Pats Pro Shop during Patriots season. I'm not so sure seeing as both Celtic and the Irish National Team failed to draw large crowds at Gillette.
Well I for one believe that the Revs should go after a DP but like Jonathan Kraft said it has to be for the right player. I would love to see the Revs go after Alessandro Del Piero, Riquelme, or Martin Palermo. Sure it be great if we could get players like Wayne Rooney, Ronaldo, or even Messi (those are the kinds of players that could move the needle) but it would take an incredible offer from the Krafts and even then its probably not going to happen. YES they need to bring in someone (if not for anything to excite the Revs fanbase and to draw better tv ratings and help boost attendance) but that someone has to in some fashion buy into the Revs system.
I can't help but make it a little sadder. Their fan base gets to wonder who they're gonna get, we're left to wonder if we will ever get anybody.
So let's say the Revs wanted to invest $2 million into the team now. We could go out and sign a DP, with questionable effect, because 2 good guys (Shalrie's good) and 8 crap guys doth not a decent squad make. (LA says hi) So lets say the Revs wanted to dump $2 million sunk cost into the Revs to try to boost attendance. I can think of a few better ways to do that.... ...subsidized transportation to Foxboro ...marketing to the right markets ...marketing the right way ...hiring the right marketing staff.
Luis Figo would be a perfect fit, I believe he is retired and so a free agent but can still play in this league and I could see him signing a 2 yr $5m deal to be the face of the Revs. Ryan Giggs or Paul Scholes would be great too but they probably couldnt be bothered and sure as hell don't need the money. Robbie Keane would be a good fit and is available for about $4m a year in salary. The problem with Keane is that Tottenham would probably want $10-12m for him unless they work out a loan deal. Thierry Henry I hate because he's a cheating **** but he would be a great acquisition and his ego would drive him to the States to be the next 'saviour'.
You know perfectly well they won't. My point is simply that there are actually more effective uses - both financially and from our standpoint as somewhat unhinged fanatic Revs supporters - for that money. Robbie Burns Night with Stevie Nicol.... think about it

I cant see the Revs ever signing(well not ever, but in the next 5 years) a DP unless the league actually forces them to, which is unlikely to happen. If you look at the other things, far less expensive things, that the team lags behind the rest of the league in it makes it highly unlikely to me.
I have no doubt we'll use all 3 draft picks. we'll trade them....how else will we get the allocation that will wont use?
I'm assuming he was joking. Figo is retired, Fowler's in Australia, and Sheringham is 44 and last played three years ago for Colchester United.
Yeah, seriously seeing Sheringham on a list of players to get in 2010 cracked me up. Why don't we go after Alan Shearer or Vinny Jones while we're at it. Hell, Stevie Nicol would've been a DP 20 years ago, why not suit him up. DP=draft pick for the foreseeable future.
Theoretically, the revs could go out and sign two DP's, make Joseph a third, put Twellman on IR, dump Jank, and have over 1.1 million in cap space to work with to add more players. Do the math. Based on last years salaries and the new minimum wage, our current cap hit is around 2.1 million. Subtract Twellman, Jank, and Shalrie, and our cap hit is now 1.1 million. Then add 1.50K X 3 for the DP's minus allocation money, and our cap hit goes to 1.45 million. That's 1 million we can use to go out and find better players. We could sign 3-4 quality players with 1 million in cap space. So in the end, the Krafts spend about 2-3 million in allocation and 1-2 million of their own money and we get 7 quality players. All with salaries over $250,000. If the Kraft's wanted, the revs could contend for the league title this year. That's a fact.
