if i remember correctly, all the big names were there... i have autographs from, and pictures with keano, scholes, giggs, rio, fletch, ruud, and others like bellion, forlan, etc. ill have to find the pix to recall all the players.
but that wasnt a wc year, so maybe this will b different.

you're talking about '03. In '04, the big talking point was Jonathan Spector.

Ronaldo was with Portugal in Athens that summer. Ruud, Scholes and Saha were left behind to rest. but i think Scholes was flown in with the Neville brothers after "pressure" from the spectators thinking that the "big names" weren't there.

they played Bayern (Chicago), Celtic (Philly), and Milan (NJ).

I don't care who's there, I would walk to the ends of the Earth just to see Kiko, Hargreaves, Sheasy, and the twins. Maybe we'll even get to see Dodo in action?

I have Zero Doubt it would be a sellout. For one thing, American Reds will convene... and so will the ones from Mexico, which given how often (or how little) United has previously toured the USA that makes the trip justifiable. I don't think anyone will care who's out there -- it's Manchester United.

Could have sworn he was signed and loaned out until a work permit could be given for him to play over here? I could be mistaken.

United (and English soccer in general) is more popular now "brand-wise" than ever. plus on the heels of a World Cup anywhere United will go will sell out.

    IMO.

Shall we take up a forum fund to fly RoM over for the Philly match? He'll have to pay for his own beer though.... :D

From what I've heard from others on the forum, he'll spend more on the beer than we will getting him there... :p

    from Steve Goff...

I'm getting word from outside sources that Manchester United is almost definitely going to be the MLS All-Star Game opponent in Houston, but no official confirmation. The league reiterated today that it is "working on securing a world-class opponent but we do not have a signed agreement at this time."

can't stand all-star games but if it brings United to the States I'm all for it.

I'm already pissy. I want to go in boston, but got got screwed last time in NY. There is no way I want my first experience with this team to be short changed. And don't tell me about true fans and the tradition of the reserve team.

Mark my words, other than the all-star game, many people will be disappointed with who [will be] missing from the team, finding this out long after the tickets were paid for.

Rooney is my favorite player. He won't be playing in Boston.

the amount of players missing is going to be minimal. some big names sure - mainly Nani and Rooney from a fans/kids perspective - but there are so many others that aren't going to the world cup.

Rooney, Ferdinand, Carrick (?), Nani, Vidic, Evra, Tosic, Park... anyone else?

How do you figure? They only brought Giggs over last time. The world cup will demand even more rest.

You will see players in Man Utd shirts but you won't be able to say you saw Man Utd.

I hope I save you money. I lost $120 for two tickets.

i'm not sure i follow you. at all. i won't be able to say that i "saw Man Utd"?

the players i listed are the ones in the World Cup and the ones that probably wouldn't make the the trip. but if you look at our first team squad there are still a lot of great players that would be coming over, not to mention a lot of the youth/reserves that we all highly rate.

i had a great time when i saw the team in 2003 and will enjoy it this time around as well.

yeah, people have to understand that these are exhibition. I think all of us won't want to see a player gets injured in an exhibition and hurt our chances in the PL and CL.
