okok, firstly Nowaks team was absolute shite, Maybe he though this was a NFL game, myrie should of been red carded twice, his team sucked, Ljundberg did everything but dive and fake, hes small, he doesnt exacly carry any weight, the refs in MLS, have always really sucked, and personally, they really sucked in all the games in week one, I mean if you watched the rsl san jose game, i really was embaressing not to see a yellow when he bodychecked a rsl player where he looked like road kill, but hey what do i know

It was same thing as The SEA/Phil game; you guys started to dominate and they had to start hacking- specially after that Morales goal in the 14Th min. That was bad ass long distance EPL highlight kind of goal. But you didn't loose any team members did you? You ain't seen nothing yet, wait tell the Union come to town!;)

Landon is poor example, because only American players World Class, in MLS. I am talking about protecting skilled players like Donovan ( much lower scale ) from serious injuries.

Keep losing players like Yura, Rolfe, Goodson, Parkhurst etc..to Scandivia for deals around 100k, then MLS isn't doing it's job.

This is not a uniquely American problem. In the 1st half of Arsenal vs. Barça, when Fabregas got his yellow card that would keep him out of the 2nd leg, the commentator remarked that Fabregas forgot that the refs in European competition are stricter than EPL refs. Like EPL teams, USMNT players just have to learn to put kiddy gloves, err, boots on in international games (play less physical) due to the tighter refereeing.

I really hope the MLS starts cracking down and the dirty play soon. The league shouldn't need to resort to this type of soccer.

MLS is in many ways a hackers league. It did not "become" a hackers league, however. It's been that way as far back as history records, into the time of the ancients, when things like "Fusion" and "Burn" and "Quakes 1.0" made sense. Even before the birth of BigSoccer, archaeologists believe MLS was already hacking legs into a thousand tiny pieces.

With my responsible portion of this post done, I humbly and sheepishly submit this:

15 minutes in and I think Morales will be dead by halftime...without a single foul even being called.

Got yellow carded and am not allowed to start new threads in this forum. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could make a week 2 thread for MLS Hackers. Please be sure to include the [R] for the DVR folks.

At first, I passed over this thread, but after thinking about that Sounders/Union game and now seeing 2 PKs in the RSL/HOU game for just hack play, I'm tending to agree. There's not too much technical skill. It's a bit more physical, and sometimes there's just no ball control.
It probalby depends on which teams are playing and who's coach of the respective team.

The skill on defense just isn't there for the most part. I don't watch many foreign leagues but when Chelsea and Barca were in town last year, I was amazed at how well their defenders could tackle, cleanly and effectively. I'm talking multiple orders of magnitude better. I think the gap between individual talent on defense and individual talent on offense is growing, mostly as a result of the improved offensive talent. You don't use a DP on a defender.

Though Philly was flat out ridiculous, even if you forget the calls of diving against Montero and Ljungberg. What Myrie did to Zakuani was a f***ing disgrace to the game. That is not how men play the game. Nowak is an asshat.

A big difference also is the development of the players. The Europeans have been technically trained how to defend since age 9, by age 16 the pro's are picked up by a team's youth team.
US has a great player pool, but some of the players are coached by 'who knows' in college, and when they were younger they were probably hacking and stomping when defending. Our youth leagues and developemental leagues ARE getting better. It will take some time....

Marufo attepted to keep it clean tonight. Takes stones to call 2 pk's against the same team/player, but Olave is the early candidate for hack of the week. The two pk's were only some of his thugish play. Trying to be objective, Hainault got away with a nasty clip on Espindola in the box in the 63rd min. that would have earned him a 15 yd penalty in the NFL.

Mullan on Zakuani, and Leathers on Ferreira. Did either Mullan or Leathers receive any type of handslap either by the league, or the guys that are paid to ensure that those type of offenses are dealt with immediately?

Oh well, I suppose that Henry, Beckham, Donavan, Davies are the next highly coveted targets of the Hackers League. Hack on my brothers, for the sole purpose of this league is to hack till no one is left. This is sloppy spawn of Thunderdome and Rollerball mated in a oafish and clusmy forced one night stand.

I'd say just sit back and enjoy, but this is all pretty sickening to continue to pay to watch. Way to have nothing in the nutsack Garber. At least your whitey tighteys can be comfortably form fitting.

This league has always bragged about being a physical league, which really means that it has a bunch of hackers around with little skill. The skill level is getting better. Mainly because of all the Argentinians we have around. Our guys (Americans) are still mostly hackers.

Why don't you wait until the discipline is handed out before blasting Garber.

What happened last weekend was unfortunate and both offenders deserve stiff punishment. But what league better or worse than MLS doesn't have it's own share of horrific injuries? Eduardo anyone?*

Are the pitch dimensions the same in every stadium, because when I watch European leagues looks like the field is bigger and the players have more space to manuever.

It varies from stadium to stadium. Generally, teams that play in SSS' have standard or close to standard sized fields. Teams that play in repurposed or shared stadiums tend to be significantly narrower. Portland, for instance, appears quite skinny. I was disappointed in that, because IIRC they built that whole smaller stand this offseason, so I don't know why they didn't make it wider.

Branko Boskovic is the latest victim of the Hackers League in just the last week. Tackle from behind, and only a yellow issued. Torn ACL I believe.

Maybe by the middle of the season, MLS will need to sign every team new DP's to replace all of the one's that we have broken.

I'd really like for some creative type to put together a cool video montage of the Hackers League.
