wow, alot of cob-webs on this thread. anyway, for next season, i want to do some 2-pole flags, but a legit 2 feet, but wider than long. would anyone be interested in joining me in this? it would look really wierd if i was the only one with a 2-pole flag. i was thinking of having 1 "dont give up the ship" one split in quarters saying RE-VS 19-95 feedback appreciated.
*blows dust off thread* *cough *cough So it appears that "the whole mess is resolved" and we now have flags. I've been appointed flag czar dude guy. So...Flags a few things. Want to bring a flag to the game? Great! Here is what you need to do... 1. Get your flag. Get your pole. (HEH) 2. Send me a PM to schedule a time to get your flag so I can bring it down to Foxborough for Cathal to pass to security. 3. Day of game get your flag from me (or Evan or Mike) inside the Fort. 4. Wave it. Your flag will be kept at the stadium for the duration of the season. If you want to take it home with you remember that in order to bring it into the next game you need to go through the process all over. Special Notes: If your flag pole is over 15 feet make sure it is retractable for safety and storage reasons. If your flag is over 6'x6' make sure it is flame retardant. Evan can explain to you how do to that. It has to be tested by Cathal and some security dudes to comply with Massachusetts laws and regulations. No obscene images (like Jesus giving the finger or 2 Girls 1 Cup, I am looking at you TFC) Um...for US Matches we'll just change flags at the game on the poles.
Is this certain? 'Cause if it wasn't, that would kinda suck and stuff... Good work guys, we are making good progress and it's only 1 home game into the season!
He has doublecheck with US Soccer but as far as he is concerned we can change the flags (not the poles) inside that are already approved inside the stadium or arrange a similar set up for US games.
Steve, I specifically asked Cathal about this a few weeks back and he indicated that there's no preferred material that the poles be made out of. That being said, I'd recommend using PVC or Polypropylene pipe (preferably in a grade known as "Schedule 80"), this as each type is durable, lightweight, and flexible. At least for PVC, the material cost to make a 5' foot pole would be about $6 dollars, and I believe you can get the material at Home Depot. The Polypropylene I bought last year was purchased from here: http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/pr...SPlastic&category_name=13672&product_id=18364
I have them all. I arranged with Kyle to bring them to the stadium on Wednesday evening. I have had them since the Chicago game because I brought them back in my van because I had the most room.
what I did for mine... 1 1/4" thick 4 ft wood dowels- $1.50/ea (cut it in half) I drilled 2 holes in the pole with a bit, put 2 rivits in the flag and tied it to the pole. then I sharpened the bottom end of the flags into a point so I can use it as a weapon against opposing fans (just kidding, no pointy ends)
I finally finished my first banner, it's roughly 5x4 and it took me about 20 hours to complete. I'm surprised on how much I loved making it. After seeing the final result, I was pleased with how it turned out and it has inspired me to make more. Since I'm not at the Fort I plan on placing this in front of section 106 where I sit. If it starts becoming to much of hassle to bring it in each game I'm willing to give it to who ever handles the other banners around the Fort. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=3578317&l=4217c7bccd&id=540509535
So I created my flag pole. I bought a 1 inch PVC pipe and cut it down to six feet. I put end caps on the ends of them. I then drilled two holes in it for eyebolts and nuts. I tightened the eyebolt with the nut and then capped the bolt off with a cap nut. I attached quick links to the eyebolts and now this allows me to easily change the flag. I plan on storing the flagpole at the stadium and bring my flag to every game. 1 in x 10 feet PVC Pipe - $2.48 2 PVC caps - $0.50 ea 1 package of quick links - $2.97 1 package of eyebolts - $1.98 Cap nut - $0.45 ea Total - $9.92 (59 cents in tax)
Just a suggestion, but you could pay a bit more and get Polypropelene Pipe which is a bit more flexible and less prone to breaking/shattering than PVC. That being said, this is a great example of how something can be done on the cheap and effectively.
Again, if people are willing to pitch in/contribute money, I'm willing to design and order large flags and flagpoles for each supporters' group in The Fort. All I really need is the cash, hi-res versions of logos from Rev Army and The Rebellion, as well as some possible design ideas. Each flag/flagpole combination will cost around $200.
