Looked and sounded awesome on TV. Had no idea it had the whole Philips Arena luxury suites on one side thing; it certainly brings the upper decks closer. The only thing I don't like is that the middle sections of the upper deck don't come all the way down to the front as the ends do. It seems like there is a walkway there which gives it a slight empty feel on TV. Front row upper deck at midfield tend to be my favorite seats for events since you can see the whole field, not have anything obstructing your view, and feel close to the action and venues with walkways kill it for me. Based on that one flaw I award it 9.5/10.
You guys have no clue what you are talking about. I was there and it was as close to a sellout as you can get. Everything filled up into the game except for a few seats up in the corners of the 2nd level. The kinks are still be worked out with arriving to the stadium which makes alot of people late.
I didnt say it was completely sold out. He is trying to argue that it was half empty and Im just stating that those were the only seats nbot taken.
I'm just playing around with the both of you. My comment had more to do with the lengthy debate about the aesthetics and semantics behind endline and corner seating in the context of RBA's apparent disproportionate seating arrangement.
The lower bowl sideline seats on the TV side looked about 1/4 empty throughout the entire game. You couldn't see the red bull symbol in the seats very clearly, but enough to know it was there. That's not to say it's a bad thing considering where the Red Bulls came from, just that there were a decent number of people that didn't use their tickets today.
I personally thought by just eyeballing it from section 101 that there was about 22,000-24,000 people in the house give or take.
The arena is just a great place. Easily the best MLS stadium. As for the crowd tonight. The place filled in nicely as the game went on. 24k was spot on. It was pretty damn cold out there but it well worth it. Can't wait for the next game. So many haters on these boards who are just jealous. Get over it.
I agree this place looks amazing. Hopefully in the future I can make it out there for a game it looks stunning. BTW earlier in this thread there was the whole camera angle talk just want to say that ESPN did by far a way better job than FSC did last week. It looked great in HD. Happy for you Reb Bull fans you guys truly have the gem as far as stadium goes of MLS hopefully it brings good things for you all.
The camera's were higher up. They had at least one camera on the concourse behind the supporters end.
It was so much better in person. That's all I can say. I'm still drunk so I don't wanna use too many superlatives.
Well they had to do SOMETHING, I mean we pretty much smoked out half of the field four different times during the game. Truthfully, I expected a little bit more than two flares out of Section 8.
the upper deck was much fuller than the bottom from what i saw. i drove in at 3 and it took me 45 minutes to get from Market St. in Newark to the stadium. Thats a 5 minute walk, so I can only imagine what it was like out there if someone tried to show up anytime later than that.
That dude must have gotten to me because I watched the RBNY game and then immediately the San Jose game and I just couldn't stop laughing at the idea that this guy spent five pages bashing Red Bull Arena and was probably at Buck Shaw watching the Quakes do what they do best in what could only be considered a temporary joke of a stadium. Temporary being the operative word..I hope.
would you have rather they did as TFC fans did in Columbus this weekend by lighting flares and kicking them onto the canopy below the section to watch them burn holes in the canopy and fall down onto unsuspecting fans?
Like what? We had more fans travel to New York then you have brought to Chicago combined over the years. Also the first to light pyro in your own stadium.
Thought it looked pretty good from 101, well played. Might as well let it loose when you did at the end of the game since you didn't have anything else to celebrate in the previous 89 minutes of the match.
I would love to bring a huge group of New York fans to Chicago. When's your $200 million stadium going to be completed?
First to light flares, yes. But we smoked out the entire south half of the pitch multiple times. I was kind of hoping to see some strobos or more consistent pyro out of yous guys, not just 30 seconds of flares late in the second half.
