He'll scare them to death, that's for sure. IMO, aside from Columbus, nobody in the Eastern Conference is all that imposing. It's unlikely that Philadelphia will do as well as the Sounders did last year, but I can't imagine regarding any Nowak-coached team being pushovers. I could see Philadelphia finishing as high as 5th or 6th place in our conference.

Yeah, Nowak's not going to win MLS cup or the Supporters' Shield this year -- which, it should be noted, would be a a first for him in his head coaching career, getting shut out of winning a trophy -- but I think Nowak's teams in DC over-performed relative to the talent they had, and I attribute that to the fact that Nowak's "system" was both straightforward and consistent: He took players who were sometimes limited, talent-wise, and gave them a simple, clear role. Then the player had to bust his hump to perform that role or else. Simple.
My prediction is that Philly will over-perform relative to their talent level. Unfortunatly, that's still only good for middle-of-the-pack in the East.

    from of "What Coulda Been",

Juan Veron (originally our Plan A a few years ago) was named Player of the Game leading and providing the game-winning assist in Estudiantes 2-0 victory over Bolivar (aww - too bad) - They are now in 2nd place in their group after 4 games

and from the land of "What woulda Ben?",

Ben Olsen was interviewed by Lindsay Czarniak as part of her lunch-interviews with notable DC sports stars on tonight's local NBC news - OK - All guys have been pretty laid back, but Olsen showed 'em how a pro does it - Even as an assistant coach, he's still holding out for the players' dress code (i.e., none) - And then topped it off by splitting a Toasted Marshmellow Shake

Meh' I stil lthink he is overrated. He just has a great supporting cast, with guyus like Mauro Boselli and guys like Sosa from Bayern back at Estudiantes on loan, and other talented players around him to finish his passes and through balls.

His service would be just like Gallardo for us when here, he isnt the type of player that would do much different for us now.

    Marco would be better. ;)

Anyone remember all of Fred's vicious tackles on pretty much everyone around the league?

I'm excited to see how United fans perceptions of him change this season. I always felt like he was getting a lot of leeway for some pretty awful play.

That said, Martino still sucks. No argument here.

D'oh! You're right, of course. That '05 team was just so good it still doesn't make sense to me that they didn't win anything.

I won't vote against a Nowak led team. They'll be a direct reflection of him.

The tackle of Fred was bad, but what destroyed my respect for Martino was his refusal to admit he'd done wrong. His comments were to the effect that the tackle was fine and Fred was over dramatising the contact; this several days after the game when everyone had seen slo-mo replays. No respect left for him, no matter how articulate or how hot his girlfriend.

Mexico - Iceland friendly is tied 0-0 at the beginning of the second half. No one has names on the backs of their jerseys so I have no clue who is playing not to mention it is on Telemundo and I don't understand that much Spanish. I don't think that the announcer knows that Icelanders don't go by their last names either. Oh well. Interesting game regardless. I don't understand why they chose to play a friendly in North Carolina though.

Caps up 3-3, end of the 3rd period. Ugh.

I can think of 63,000 reasons why Mexico played in NC last night. ;)

Whenever we play one of the Mexican club teams, the parking lots are full of cars with NC plates.

Indeed. That's $815,850 in Ticketmaster 'convenience fees' (assuming they all bought that way.)

    Zoinks!

I'll assume without making an Internet check that this was a S.U.M. event, as well...not that that has anything to do with convenience fees, just where the ticket moolah is flowing.

I expect. So that little event down in NC last night helped make it worthwhile for Uncle Will to continue to stick with us.
