I'm hoping a year under his belt will help him calm down when he takes his chances. Many of his misses last year seemed to be attributable to a rush of adrenaline as he prepared to shoot. A year of playing with Jaime should have shown him the effectiveness of serenity in front of goal.
To clarify: there are senior and developmental roster spots; and there are international (and non) roster spots. But there's no such thing as senior international status anymore -- it used to be the case that we had a certain number of senior international spots and a certain number of developmental international spots. Now we just have international spots which can be used for either senior or developmental players as the team wishes. Can you find a source that Shipalane was brought in as a senior roster player? That's not my recollection.
I feel like criticizing over the Jacobson thing it a bit harsh. It might be accurate, but how long was Onalfo with the team before the expansion draft? If I'm making a fairly snap decision without having had much time with the players, I'd probably protect Szetela as well, especially knowing Nowak's affinity for the player.
But but but ... the season hasn't even started Jason. How dare you worry about the roster before then. And and and ... the games don't even matter til August. All is well. Iraq is soundly defeating the imperialists!
Its my interpretation that he is not a deveplmental player from what Goff said a few days ago. With Hamid being the only Dev slot filled.
I can see Nowak going after him now. Sure Philly are getting stacked in midfield but they he's always like the player (didn't he try to get him here?) and coached him as a youth. Can't imagine it being anything else but addiction. Not to start rumors but it can't be injury (we can't waive injured players and it was said he was 100%) and it can't be money as we have loads of it, unless we've hit the motherload in players or the team is secretly going under. My only bet is his off-field trouble have really taken a turn for the first and Onalfo doesn't want to deal with it in his first season. You need a special kind of coach to manage troubled youths, and like Tino before, we can't offer that with our set up. Sigi, Bruce, and Nowak can and I'd imagine, will go after him.
You're all against me. I assume letting Szetela go now was Onalfo's decision and I guess it all comes down to why they let him go, a point on which there was much speculation earlier. Goff mentioned money and that makes a lot of sense to me. 100K to be Clyde Simms' back-up? Isn't being Clyde Simms back-up a lot like being Vice-President, sure you get to take over if he dies and you get to vote in the Senate in the event of a tie, but how often does that really happen? If that's true, then, yes, covering Szetela in the draft was foolish - let Nowak pay his post-European salary. But if it was a low-quality of play or attitude problem, that to me seems more reasonable - give a kid known to have talent another shot. A risk, but not a terrible one.
Not jumping on you but why would you assume it's all on Onalfo? Personnel moves are probably done by committee.
Mostly because I was unaware of that. Or rather, I guess I just assumed Onalfo would be casting a deciding vote at a point this close to a season.
Since we haven't yet re-signed Shipalane, he isn't yet occupying *any* slot. But if we re-sign him as a senior, I'll be appalled.
Clearly, the problem is the American owners of this club who have acquired so much debt and won't spend big for players that the manager wants. Still in general, this roster is a huge question mark. There's nothing supremely exciting about it, although, if I had to guess RSL's fan said the same thing last year. Szetela was a potential exciting player that I wanted to see more of, but who knows, maybe I would have grown to dislike him as much as Mediate. Ever since that video of the team in Mexico I have begun to get more impatient about the start of the season, though. I want to see them play; all this speculation is wearing me down.
How are Boyzzz's chances looking? Seems like he's had a decent pre-season. Being a Pittsburgh Riverhounds guy I'm curious...Boyzzz is one of the classiest guy's I've met and has real, true passion for football. He's fast on the wing (his pref) and can bag a few playing forward too. He's def not the type of player who can play alone up top, but playing off a big CF he can be very effective.
sorry for the mis spelling. I am using my phone and I can't see what I type ha. Meant to type "we" and "december"
