I have a feeling that Pastore might just sneak into the final 23 for SA.

I think he will! i dont think Maradona is gonna head into the WC with just 1 playmaker! I also think Banega will make it cause Diego will need a 4th CDM player

I wanted to ask does Banega and Garay have a chance at getting to the WC??? or is the midfield and defense locked up?

No chances at all... unless a shitload of injuries.

Banega may have a very slim outside chance, but Garay has no chance at all.

que? maradona stated that only 80% of the players that will go to the wc are already in his mind. For both garay and banega there is a shot since he needs to fill the supplementes for 23/24 players. In the last 3 'real' friendlies or competition, he's used maybe 16 players. That's 7-8 more open positions that are unknown.

Garay is a great player. I'm surprised to see Pellegrini bench him more and more. Arbeloa should be in that starting XI, but he's got the advantage of being higher in rank than Garay.

Gimme Garay over Samuel anytime! I know what I'm talking about, as a Real Madrid fan!

I really like Garay and I think he should be in the squad but Samuel has been consistently great this entire season. His spot should be a lock for the WC.

But yeah Garay should definitely be there ahead of Otamendi, Sideshow Bob, and some of these other losers Maradona insists on calling up.

Like you, I like Garay but there is no way he should get in over Samuel. Samuel has played at a high level for all his career and knows and copes with the pressure of playing in big games, Garay is just starting out.

I also hope Zabaleta makes the squad.

garay and insua should make the team as reserves - i see a red card or accumulation of yellows from heinze (a real "mufa" if you ask me). and either garay/insua would be great to have off the bench and given maradona's propensity to switch around defenses every game, garay/insua are better options that otamendi, papa and enzo the baker....

Zanetti, Cambiasso, Zabaleta, Banega and Garay will be in the list of 30. And it seems that the 3rd goalie could be Ustari, as a way to have Messi with a close friend in the WC. Kinda unfair, but ...

Once again I am right. Ustari being the 3rd goalie would make sense. He deserves it. If the friendship will help Messi, that's an added bonus.

All 6 players you listed are some of the elite defensives, players in positions for Argentina. If we're going to win or lose, at least lets do it with our best players.

You need a sub for all 6 positions (GK, LB, RB, CB 1,2, DM), because of injuries and battery recharges. Of course a few other players are going to make the cut as subs.

How Maradona uses them, I have no [insert four language here] idea.

If Coco the Clown (a.k.a. Sideshow Bob) gets in the world cup squad I am going to stop watching football.

Hope G. Milito makes it though.

Coloccini is a good player for the bench, + he can play on the right side too

Coco is not a good player, whether on the bench, the pitch or the pub. The best place for him to be during the world cup is in his house watching it on tele.

Coloccini has played 17 matches for la seleccion (as a starter or substitution). He played also all 6 matches with the 2004 olympic team.Let's say that he played all 90 minutes in every game he participated, that makes:
    23x90=2070 minutes =2070 div 60=34 hours + 2070 mod 60=30 minutes.
This is just one day and 10 hours to reconsider your view. You still have time:)

He was average in all those matches, against Mexico in 2006 he was a disaster waiting to happen and should have been given a red card for a bad collision with a Mexican player!! In 2004 , yes he was a semi decent player, since 2006 his form has slipped dastrically to the point of a joke, he deserves no spot, sorry. Ahead of him are Zabaletta, Garay, Milito, and a few more to boot!!
