It would and I'm sure he knows it. I'm also sure he knows the total clusterf**k that is doing business involving land in the Boston Metro Area. Personally I'm of the mind that talk of an SSS is to pacify the louder portions of the fanbase (such as it is) and the league, but even if he wants to (COO Brian Bilello never misses an opportunity to tell us how he much he does) getting any kind of work done will take a long, dirty, "Shawshank Redemption"-esque slog through the political junkyard of Somerville (or Quincy, or any immediate Boston suburb or the city itself). In the meantime Bob is more than happy to have them play when the Pats aren't and to have somebody, anybody shop at his fading white elephant outdoor mall. Even the Revs' email address ends in "@patriotsplace.com"...
y'know that reasoning may be perfectly logical. But there is a reason it takes so much to get something built in the urbanized area...it matters. And justifying not going forward with a project just because it will take forever, would mean never getting RBA built. So, the best argument that can be made to kraft is for this arena to have a sellout season. Because it will prove that the slog is worth it. Hell, I'm traveling from Canada to see this stadium.
I can't wait for May for the Crew game at RBA. Beautiful place from what I've seen on here and in other places.
I agree, anything worth doing isn't easy and all that...but building something in Harrison, NJ isn't exactly the same as Somerville (for example) which at one point was the most densely populated city in America. If a municipality comes forward with a deal or interest in a Revs SSS I'm sure Kraft would entertain them. That's about the only way this happens and gets done. Now why a local city would do that, seeing as the Revs are just about on the local sports radar is a whole other chat. Very true, but personally I think its going to take more than just RBA. Its going to take RBA and maybe 3 to 4 more functioning (and profitable!) SSS's before Kraft considers leaving the comfort zone of Foxboro. Anyway, not trying to threadjack. I wish our game against RBNY wasn't at the end of the damn year.
I was hoping to fly out for the game, but life has presented challenges. Next trip to the NYC metro area will include a RBA adventure
I was in Newark last week and saw the stadium whlie riding the PATH into NYC. What really stuck out to me was how out of place it looked in person, its basically in the middle of an old warehouse/industrial district. The stadium looks huge and towers over everything, but the area itself looks like god needs to take a giant pressure washer to it to scrap off the dirt and rust that cover everything. Nevertheless, pics from the inside of the stadium look great and I am definitely making the trip back to Jersey this summer.
I have my DVR set up to watch the RBNY/Santos match if only to see any highlights and features of the stadium during the broadcast. Well, that, and to cheer on Santos!
GARBER SAYS RED BULL ARENA IS BEST NEW STADIUM IN THE WORLD http://mlsinsiderblog.com/?p=1462 Without a doubt Red Bull Arena is the best new building in the world”, says MLS Commissioner Don Garber. “This isn’t just great for Major League Soccer, but there will not be another building of this size that can compare anywhere, in Europe, in Latin America, in Asia.” GOOD OLD DON , THINK HES DRANK ONE TO MANY REDBULLS TODAY..
I like to think the Emirates is better...but mainly in terms of size...Red Bull has everything the Emirates has but more compact. RBA is the BMW 5 to Arsenal's BMW 7. Just a little less leg room but maybe more speed? (losing the analogy). Magnificent
In terms of basic design, yes. The big brother has a higher seating capacity of 31,895. It also has the dreaded artificial turf the last time I checked.
I think his quote is dead on. When you read both parts and not just the first. There is most likely not another stadium in the world at the size that can rival what RB has done here.
I don't know. I'd say there are a few in Germany for starters, such as Duisburg, not to mention the very similar size ones used for the Euro 2008 championships. The ones in England at that size are let down by a less inspiring design of mainly one tier all round, although MK Dons would be up there if they ever finish the upper tier. I'd add Brondby in Denmark, Rennes in France and Ullevål Stadion in Oslo perhaps, PSV's stadium also.
If I am going to have the second best stadium in the league, I guess I can take second to that... wow, simply wow
"Without a doubt Red Bull Arena is the best new building in the world”, says MLS Commissioner Don Garber. “This isn’t just great for Major League Soccer, but there will not be another building of this size that can compare anywhere, in Europe, in Latin America, in Asia.” Best new stadium in the world huh don.... Somebody wanna get this guy a ticket to south africa...
All depends on your definition of "new". If he means in the last 2 months... then he may have something there...
Can't wait to watch Chicago upset the home opener... wait that wouldn't really be much of an upset. Fire > New Jersey Energy Drink
