I'm assuming he has access to a passport otherwise the trial is useless if the can't sign. Good luck to the kid. Anyone have more info the US-17 game already took place.
Interesting, thanks for posting. Wonder if/how he might qualify for a work permit. Also find it interesting that they said the trial was set up with the help of CPUSA, since obviously Veeder isn't a CPUSA player. I guess they're scouting as well as training over there...
A quick google search shows the last name to be Dutch that doesn't help much but its interesting. KOREY VEEDER An NSCAA/adidas Youth All-American, Veeder spent last year in the Under-17 Men's National Team Residency Program in Bradenton. He figures to be a big part of U.S. Soccer for years to come. Looks like he would have graduated this past summer. This site listed him as a Senior in high school. ESPN Rise top Florida players http://sports.espn.go.com/highschool/rise/news/story?id=3847251 Can't find anything from the Palace site yet.
If there's any money for salaries: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...palace-fail-to-pay-players-wages-1831775.html
Interesting development: *Crystal Palace Baltimore has signed midfielder-defender Korey Veeder, who will train with the parent club in London with sights on being loaned to a Portuguese second division side. Veeder, 18, was in the Bradenton residency program and played for the U.S. under-18 squad. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/2010/01/monday_kickaround_36.html It's official: Crystal Palace Baltimore have signed 18-year old Korey Veeder to a three-year contract. The former US U-17 National Team midfielder/defender will spend the next several weeks training in Baltimore before heading over to Crystal Palace in London. The St. Petersburg, Florida native will then train with the English Championship club prior to a loan move to a continental European club, which will allow him to obtain E.U. work status. A further announcement will be made once the loan move has been finalized. http://www.crystalpalaceusa.com/home/393550.html Guess we can't really call him a YA just yet, but it's certainly of note and might be a window into what CP is thinking in the States.
Interesting CPB would sign him and immediately try to loan him out so he can gain EU status. But from the comments from the mother club in London it sounds like they like him (even want him) but can't sign him due to not being eligible for a WP. So signing in Baltimore keeps their hand on him so to speak. It may be a nice piece of business for CPB in the end. I wonder if that 2nd division team in Portugal Goff mentions is G.D. Estoril?
For some time I had wondered on the route in which Palace were going to get American's onto their squad. I imagine they have a deal in place with this Portuguese club in which they give young, cheap players to gain work status. The club itself gets good young players and perhaps a little bit of dough.
The connection with Estoril is natural considering Estoril have a partnership with Traffic Sports, who currently have Tony Taylor and Bryan Arguez there.
I don't think you can get EU status by playing in Portugal. Unless Portugal is like Spain where if you have a Latin American passport you can gain citizenship in 2 years. I know Portugal is part of the EU but I think it takes a while to get citizenship. The only countries I know of that get citizenship quick is Belgium, Poland and Spain (as mentioned above). I just checked and it takes 10 years to get naturalized citizenship in Portugal. Perhaps the loan is just to get experience and then they will work on a club/country for citizenship.
Snip: Veeder would probably already be playing in south London were it not for British government restrictions on foreign workers. Cherneski and company are working on a loan deal somewhere in the Portuguese second division – will it be Estoril, the club owned by Traffic which is presently home to young Americans Bryan Arguez and Tony Taylor? – so that the pacey outside back can establish his eligibility for a European Union work permit. Is CP even going to exist after this year? Have read some dreadfull things. Not in the sports section either. When you make the regular business news you know there are monstrous problems.
It's a long storied club so someone will step up, buy the club, and set them straight. It may be a gigantic task but it can be done. It has to be done. I highly doubt they would fade and cease to exist. But then again I said the same thing about original Wimbeldon FC in 2004! ;0
Interview with Veeder: The Florida native has spent the past few months training with USSF Second Division team Crystal Palace Baltimore before he plans to head over to the London club Crystal Palace. Pending an EU work permit, Veeder, a midfielder, will be able to train with the club’s Under-18 academy. http://www.ussoccerplayers.com/ussoccerplayers/2010/03/10-questions-with-korey-veeder.html
what ever happened to the potential loop hole for a EU passport thru England with an entrepreneur passport if one had made $60k the previous year.
Called into the U-20s: http://www.ussoccer.com/News/U-20-MNT/2010/08/U20-MNT-Set-for-Three-International-Games-in-Peru.aspx Interesting little story. Will be interesting to see how much US minor league affiliates of foreign clubs (CPUSA, Austin Aztex/Stoke City, Miami/Traffic/Desportivo Brasil) become a useful professional alternative to college in developing young US prospects and opening doors for them in foreign leagues. Vancouver also seems to be getting into the USYNT game, though I guess that just gets folded into the MLS/GA story next season.
Brand new interview He talks about the U20 callup and his future in moving overseas to Europe http://www.yanks-abroad.com/get.php?mode=content&id=6719
What is happening with this guy? The U-20 camp roster lists him as "Korey Veeder (Out of Contract)"... Is he entering the MLS draft? Moving to Europe?
Well Crystal Palace Baltimore isn't playing in a league next season so he'll have to find a new club.
I'm hoping he's one of the guys that has signed with MLS and will be added to the combine. But who knows. He's good enough to go pro somewhere! I've seen him play. He must have prospects somewhere or I doubt Rongen would be calling him up.
