Sorry if this is old news. http://www.csnwashington.com/03/09/...nding_dcunited.html?blockID=194217&feedID=279 CSN will air 15 games this year. They are on the team schedule: http://www.dcunited.com/tickets-schedule/schedule-results After CSN and the national broadcast, the following are the no-TV games: 3/27, @ Kansas City 4/3, vs New England 4/17, vs Chicago 5/8, @ Dallas 10/2, @ Colorado 10/23, vs Toronto Additionally, there's exactly one game being listed as being on Galavision, 5/22, @ Houston.
I'm neither amazed nor surprised. It's been this way for several years. It sucks, but I can't say I didn't expect something like this.
It looks like all the non-CSN (and non-Galavision) games except 10/2 Colorado are available via Direct Kick.
Of bigger annoyance to me are the two games in October that are not televised, particularly @ Colorado. One is the regular season home finale, and the other is the second to last road game. Both are likely to have playoff implications. This year I plan to get the internet package, since I have finally figured out how to hook it up to my TV and to a remote control. But it would be nice to be able to tell people who are marginally interested that they can watch the games that they are most likely to be interested in.
3/27, @ Kansas City 4/3, vs New England 4/17, vs Chicago 5/8, @ Dallas 10/2, @ Colorado All of the directly above listed games in my post are on MLS DirectKick, for which the whole season package can be purchased for a minimal price. So those games are on TV. Now whether people want to pony up a little money is their choice. The only game not on TV is the 10/23, vs Toronto, which is offered by MLSNet.com . ps-Just wanted to clarify the TV situation, since it appeared some people were spazzing...
The league is mandating that every game be produced in HD this season. Not sure how many will trickle down to being shown in HD. The league has had a requirement for every game to be available somewhere on TV for a few years now. I wonder if that's an oversight or something. Direct Kick should get everything if it's not on a national network.
I wish the games not brodcast locallly would be picked up on another channel like my20 or the cw. I'm guessing CSN wouldn't allow it.
Yes, i believe so. I've had both, and I can't remember any games on the one that weren't on the other. However, to be honest, I wasn't really looking for that anomaly either.
When DirectKick™ decides to show replays of games, it will be the perfect product. I keep making the suggestion .......
It actually is a possibility. I don't think CSN gets a vote. IIRC (via Goffblog) CSN only buys the rights of the games they plan to air. So the other games could be sold separately. With that said, I'm not holding my breath waiting for another channel to jump in to air just ne or two games.
Somewhat off topic question: Does anyone know if there is a way to run the internet package through a Playstation? I haven't really played with its web-browser too much, but my computer is old and barely plays music, let alone streams video, so I want to figure out an alternative this year since more DC games will delayed or not shown once the Caps make the playoffs. no?
I do remember that at least once the Direct Kick United game was blacked out because Comcast was supposed to be broadcasting it...and didn't. So I'm down on Direct Kick as a solution. I figure the only United games I'm guaranteed to see are those that I attend. I've pretty well given up on expecting to see the others. And for me, given satellite download speeds and fair use policies, the computer isn't a solution. Sucks.
i remember back then use to show game on channe; news 8 directv has now comcast alternate it shows nba game or capital vice verus so i think thats how comcast will do its thing
I bought MLSnet.com last year. It worked for a few games then stopped working. Support was a misnomer. Fool me once, I want be fooled again!
Yea, I remember there were a few games that just plain didn't work last season. They use the same tech support as MLB's online package and it was horrible.
I would guess CSN would have a problem in that they are paying for games, whereas DCU would be giving them away to someone else for free, or even paying for the airtime, which devalues CSN's property considerably. It may not be in the contract, but then in a couple years when the contract is up, CSN may no longer be in the mood to deal with you, and there's no other outlet that is really positioned to cover 15 games to most of the DC area viewing audience.
Remember when MASN started, they actually bidded against CSN for the DCU rights? I thought was strange at the time -- the last time of year that MAN needs more programming is during the summer -- but it was at least they were interested at one point.
If you have, for instance, DirecTV and the sports package, you can get most, if not all, replays of games without the package. NY/NJ usually has a MetroStars in 60 highlight package at midnight on gamedays, and a replay sometime Sunday/Monday. I belive United and Chicago, both on Comcast nets, have rebroadcasts in the following days, although this is becoming more and more scarce for DC. But it would be a great idea. Just like with WWF PPV's you always get a replay after the big event. MLS should maybe invest a couple of bucks into getting the package provider to press record on the TiVo and playing it again later. The channels just sit there blank on DirecTV all week. Thx, Jay!
