damnit that just looks weird to me. out of place on a soccer jersey. the team in IBIK's post look like a bunch of red stripe stand in's.

seriously, leave the sash to the beauty contest ladies. give me a clean simple, classy, jersey any day.

Before who? River Plate? I doubt it, River Plate is an OLD club (est. 1901) probably even before the U.S. was sending national soccer teams to events. They've always had the red sash (you can see it in photos from the 20's & 30's of players).

Now, having said all that, I still like Boca better.

its all about the color scheme of the sash I think. A lighther colored (white) sash on a darker color looks much worse then a darker colored sash on a lighter (white) color. The river jersey, I have always thought, looks pretty sweet. The USMNT... not so much (same with LA's). But hey, I will probably buy one for the hell of it

Actually, those were two different teams I posted. The top one is River Plate, the bottom one is the Peruvian National Team. Hardly "stand in's" IMO.

I'm not trying to change your opinion - it's certainly valid - but I am trying to point out that the sash look is deeply rooted in soccer history -- like it or not.

I've enjoyed Guatemala's kit. They seem to do the sash/stripe the right way. It is on the LEFT shoulder and highlights the team shield, not the Puma logo!

While the left to right sash may highlight the team crest, the US has always used right to left sashes: the military, Boy Scouts, Miss America, college marching bands, etc. The right to left sash incorporates the US culture into the jersey. I'll be buying the blue one (looks much better than the white with off white sash).

RSL just posted a note on facebook saying findley is getting the start today. hopefully he does something, the guys in orange arent exactly known for their stellar defense so robbie needs to step up. he's playing with the big boys now, no excuses if he doesnt perform. you want a ticket to SA this summer robbie? get a goal in this game. the US needs to attack the shit out the NED's today and hold possession if they want to have a chance in this game. the Nederlands will be throwing everything at the US defense and are great attackers, i have a feeling this is going to be like the spain or brazil game at the confed cup last summer, barrage after barrage of attacks at our defense and a few opportunities for counters. we need capitalize on those opportunities.

I cannot believe he is starting! Good for him, and i have faith in him. I think BB is giving him the start so he can get better service. He didnt really get a lot of service in the other games. Hopefully he does well, this is the last chance for him until the World Cup. Here goes nothing....

findley has played himself off the squad with his performance right now IMO, i would expect johnson to come on at half. findley's passing has been real poor this half and hasnt had any impact in the attacking third. his one "shot" sucked and should have been attacked in a different way.

donovan is a ghost. havent heard his name called yet.

the ref sucks, should have been two cards on the dutch so far, one should be red for the foul on holden.

bornstein and spector have played like complete shit, bornstein should never see the field for our world cup squad. his foul for the penalty was just awful.

In their 8 WCQ and subsequent 4.5 friendlies, the guys in orange have surrendered a total of 2 goals. Good stuff there!

yes, i just learned that. my previous understanding of the nederlands has been an average defense and a great attacking team.

findley subbed off, mercifully. he didnt do anything, has no business on the south africa squad. maybe next cycle findley.

god this game has been boring, i dont say that often.

bornstein has had a real shocker of a game today, directly responsible for both goals.

this game is defined by one sentence: a comedy of errors. i just have to laugh at how bad its been, especially for bornstein. i just dont understand why the oranje fans arent clapping and cheering for bornstein when he came off. they should be since he is responsible for both goals.

there have been to exciting moments for the US, torres' shot from distance that curled over the bar and beasley's cross into the box off the hookup with bedoya. everything before and after has been utter crap. the ref turned in a real awesome performance as well.

of course as i write this boca gets a goal back. beasley with a real good free kick, you watching donovan?

well, the US decided to play 5 minutes of good soccer to the end, but falls short at thats that. extremely boring, and bad, until the 87th minute if anyone is going to watch this on DVR. sorry if i ruined it for you.

findley has no business being on the field for SA 2010.

my take on it will be posted on my blog, but I have to say:
Findley was a ghost same with Donovan.
Beasley played himself right back onto the squad as I see it. Where has he been... injured, right
    who the hell is bedoya?
boca comes through on a set piece, aka our bread and butter
England looks vulnerable, 3-1 was a good win, but they looked awful for stretches
Sneijder and the ref both suck major ass. You can tell Sneijder has been playing in Italy and especially with Inter with his "I am above you" crap and his diving out of the way of hard tackles. What a clown

while it it wasnt pretty, it gave me faith that this team will hang with ANYBODY

Wouldn't be surprised if Holden has a torn ACL. A knee is not supposed to bend in that direction. That ref has no excuse for not giving that dude red card. In fact he has no excuse for not giving a card at all. What a joke.

Bornstein's hand ball in the box was bad also.

de jong did in fact get a yellow card for the foul, espn just did a horrible job keeping up with that. torres also received a yellow during that time, apparently for arguing with the ref. in any case, the ref did an absolutely despicable job the whole game, the flop de jong did while beasley had a clear 1 v 1 with the keeper, but got called for a foul was just horrific. beasley did not even touch de jong, de jong tripped on the turf monster and flung himself to the ground.

i would say about 80% of the calls went to NED and 20% went to the US, no exaggeration. just a truly poor job by the man in the middle this game.

im incredibly disappointed with donovan, he may have not gotten much support from his teammates, but i did not even see him on the screen for most of the game. the few times he actually got involved were when he fouled someone or gave the ball away carelessly. his free kicks were pathetic and his corners were not what im used to seeing from his everton time. just an overall bad game by him as well.

boca is our hero on set pieces, that guy is money. he just has a knack for getting his head on the ball in good places (even if he was inexplicably left unmarked on his goal, he did the perfect thing, head the ball down and away from the keeper).

bedoya played well, got involved while in the game, his feed to beasley for his cross was perfect (much better than anything i saw from findley or donovan).

for the US, i hope to god gooch, dempsey and davies can get into game shape by the world cup or we are going to flame out in the group phase again. we lack all creativity in the final third, with dempsey and davies we are more dangerous. right now we just look disorganized once we get the ball into the midfield on the attack. jozy cant do it all alone (his rocket at the end of the game was great to see, he needed something to hang his hat on for this game).
