O.M.G. YES! that is a brilliant idea. we got some good ideas floating around this thread, i also like the idea of a stripper pole truck cruising around the stadium. i also like the idea of stripper poles at each corner, that would be freaking sweet as well. we could also start a hot girls in lingerie mini game during half time. screw the little kiddy half time games, the cute factor is played out. now if we could get some smokin hot models wearing skimpy clothers play a short game during half, hell ya. that would kick some serious ass.
i dont care what you call them hell i doubt i would realize they had faces for half of the season... on a serious note, another thing i would do differently if I worked in the FO was try to have a preseason game at the RioT every year that was free. That was a fantastic idea, I thought, last year. Yes I realize that it worked out because we had a bye the first week, but why not the week before the first week? I just think its a great way to make sure everything is going to run properly at the RioT and get some attention to the game at a fairly low cost.
Which concerts are you talking about? A paltry 3 last year and so far 0 announced for this year. Other outdoor venues have started to announce and market their seasons. If it is such an important revenue stream they don't know how to use it yet.
It's not about how many concerts they have; it's about how much profit they put in the bank. It's not just this post, but I am getting tired of the, "RSL isn't doing (something) like everyone else, so they must be doing it wrong," complaints. It seems to me that the fact that we DID win the MLS Cup, that financially, we ARE in better shape than most, should say that RSL, has in fact, learned how to do some things.
I agree... and it isn't as if the most successful and largest club in the world isn't having financial difficulties. Heck, the entire English Football Association looks like it is in major trouble based on the number of teams claiming financial difficulty or going into bankruptcy. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jan/20/manchester-united-glazers-debt-ronaldo
I've parked there before (paid $5, I think). Anyway, if I was in the FO, I'd spam this forum back into the stone ages. You know, just to keep things interesting.
I know that we always flirt here on the boards with a stadium wide chat; last year chanting the last names of the players seemed pretty catchy. But check this shizz out from the Spectrum at USU: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dpNWMZK1tk"]YouTube- I Believe That We Will Win[/ame] **** AWESOME. Edit: And for good measure: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apP4X1HC5JM&NR=1"]YouTube- Winning Team Losing Team Chant - Utah State Aggies Basketball[/ame]
nice videos, those are awesome chants. reminds of some chants we would do at UP for the womens soccer games (yes womens, they are damn good and have set all sorts of attendance records for NCAA soccer games). there would usually be 500-1k students in the student section. my favorite chants were: when an opposing player is being subbed off everyone chants LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT RIGHT for every step he/she takes when walking off the field. you repeat the left right until the player gets to the bench and then when the player finally gets to the bench everyone yells SIT DOWN! it was pretty comical, players learned about the chant and would delay the time it took for them to sit down as long as possible, but the students would keep chanting left right no matter how long it took. another favorite chant, when we were about to win a game we would do the nananana hey hey hey goodbye and after the third time everyone pulls out their key chains, jingles their keys and yells ITS ALL OVER, DRIVE HOME SAFELY repeatedly. sounded awesome when a thousand plus would be yelling it.
This would be completely awesome. I'm in Section 25, I'm all in. Let's do this! The chants at the Spectrum are amazing!
04/02 -Columbus Crew W, 4-1 11,806 04/11 -D.C. United W, 2-1 11,793 Now reconcile the above attendances...
I get your point, but the promotions for the free game were more than the promotions/advertising for those two games... RSLFO thought people would just show up, despite the weather and the lack of info put out, because the team went to the playoffs the year before. Hopefully they dont make the same mistake this year, even though we did win the f-ing cup
Ummmm....the weather for those April games was terrible. That was the reason for the extremely low attendance at those games. It was freezing cold and raining. I think the free preaseason game, or $1 ticket preseason game is a great idea.
Ummmm.... the only reason? Really? As the street girls say, never give free ones. Not in RioT. Not right before the season opener. Dump tickets as needed, but don't water down the product with needless & entirely free match dates.
It was part of "the reason" but not THE reason. There was a lot that played part in the opening poor attendance. For starters, like mentioned, it was Utah weather in April. Unpredictable... we got the bad side. Next, promotions for it were slim to none. There was this strange expectation from the FO, it seemed, that because the team did well the season before (well at the end of it... again) then people would come out the next season. News flash: they didnt. Third, and a bigger factor then many think, the economy was poor. People were tight on their wallets and a rainy soccer game wasnt going to change that. I think, if done properly, a "free" friendly at the RioT would be a really good tradition. You make sure you have everything running properly, you advertise it as being an open house to the public, you rape people on concessions (thats the plan always isnt it?), you promote the upcoming 2-3 games like crazy (maybe even hand out some discounts like a buy the first 3 games get the 4th one free type thing) and make sure its done on a night with no other conflicts (translated: no jazz games). I think, if done right, this could be a great way to get people back on the bandwagon after the LONG offseason
what is the difference between playing a friendly here in the valley and having an open house game at the RioT? While it may cost more for the RioT operation, you also get people into the cathedral that we call a soccer stadium. I would be curious to see how much that friendly against Austin really "hurt" the wallets at RSL
