ranieri will start saying he needs 2 years to build a team again like he did 2 years ago.
give him the most expensively assembled team in europe and he stills cant deliver the goods..
time for someone competent to give abramovich value for money.

I admit the current run of form is disheartening, but it's no reason to give up on Ranieri, he's doing a great job in total. Also, the season is not over.

yep ,ranieri has started talking about "building the team" again.
must be hard to build a team when you change the tactics ,starting 11 and formation in practically every game .
I thought he had settled on a best 11 ,then he starts tinkering again.
he wont be boss next year methinks.

Losing to a Bruno Cheyrou goal. Ouch.

I think that the team just isn't ready to handle the mantle of contenders. Whereas in previous years other clubs didn't necessarily get movtivated to play us, now we're one of the big three. Which is why Liverpool's effort was suddenly more impressive - they cared more about this one. We need to realize that there won't be too many easy games from here on out.

And someone needs to tell Adrian Mutu what offiside means, because I'm not sure he's figured it out. Also, showing him what a goal is would be nice. When was the last time he scored, anyway?

As a lifelong Red Sox fan it is amazing to me that when I finally realized there was this great league in England and I stumble on a team to support and give my heart to it has to be Chelsea.

Jesus, could the Red Sox and Chelsea be more similiar? Now I get to spend the whole year in pain.

    13 games without a goal :(

We need a decent target man for the likes of Mutu and Eidur to play off, Crespo or Jimmy where are you? the season is half way through and we're tired of waiting.

Crespo 7 goals in 10 games, nice ratio, BUT. . .

As for the offsides, *#*#*#*# knows what that was about.

Chelsea 10 shots on goal and 8 corners
    Liverpool 4 and 3 corners.

I have a seat in the west stand half way between the half way line and the 18 yrd box. Thus it is a good place to watch offsides. Mutu spends a good 70% of the game offside, as do many modern strikers cf RVN. They rely on the fact that they are not interfering and then step up back onside when they think they are going to get a play. This unsettles the defenders.

It also unsettles me as my eye is drawn to him and I keep thinking get onside!

I guess it depends on the lino on the day as to how they interpret the non interference thing.

I can assure you that the lino in front of the west stand last night was the worst one I have seen for many a year, and given I was at Watford on Saturday that says something. Apart from his offside decisions he seemed to have difficulty even telling when the ball was in and out of play.

I can sympathise as I support the Sox against the Yankees.

However my main team is the Indians and despite coming close in the 90's never quite made the top either despite having one of the most attractive batting lineups.

    D*&% those marlins

I lived in Cleveland for many years my friend, and believe me, I feel your pain. Did you know we turned down a Jaret Wright for Pedro trade in those years? Yeah, good move on our part. Rincon for Giles? Grrrrr.

Err, to get back on the subject, I think I'll paste this thread into any discussion where someone accuses me of being a gloryhunter.

I thought Mutu got a raw deal. Several of the offsides calls looked really questionable to me.

They were, however, nicephoras does have a point though. The problem was not so much with Mutu, but with the manager. After the first few calls went against Mutu, Ranieri should have cottoned on to the fact that this linesman was a) an idiot and b) calling anything that even remotely looked offsides as definitely offside.
Ranieri should have then called Mutu off to the side for a little "heads up" as the yanks like to say..ie, tell him that he's not going to get anything of the jerk and not play so deep.Yes, it takes away from his game and yes it hurts us as we try to put him through with a long pass--but the incessant offsides hurt us even more as move after move was called to a halt by the friggin lino.

Of course Mutu himself is no mug--did you lot know he's the most educated of all our players?--and should have realised this himself.Perhaps he's still used to the slower...er sorry, technical ;)...pace of the Italian game.

Also the continued hoofing of the ball up to him had me pulling my hair out as it was never going to work.Hyppia played that linesman for everything he could and on the night it was working to a charm.
What baffled me was there was no change earlier from Ranieri to get it out wide and keep it there. The continued pushing into the middle of the pitch by Joe Cole was annoying and continously breaking down or at least slowing down our attacks. That and the fact that he left Geremi on the pitch at all after the half instead of Gronkjaer were puzzling decisions.

Pretty good assessment BLUE, one shouldn't have to explain the offside rule to a player. Mutu was an embarrassment in the 2nd half throwing himself down in the area, deliberate handball(Shoulda got a card there) and we won't mention the Diuof caper. Well I won't anyway.;)

Fun read here. But we used to call it "The Black Spot"

Punt and Hoof Liverpool football now that is embarrasing :)

Heskey should have been sent off long before Diouf was. Missing Diouf was no great loss to the Liverpool side, what is it now 27 games without a goal for Diouf? The only embarrassment in the game was Chelsea losing to such a mediocre and inferoir side as Liverpool (It will be an embarrassment for English football if Liverpool end up qualifying for Europe, although I cannot see that happening as they simply are not good enough despite all their “heroic” defending).

Chelsea 10 shots on goal and 8 corners
Liverpool 4 shots on goal and 3 corners.

    Liverpool Champions League qualification???

    I don't think so.

Hey, I have to agree with a lot you said here. It wasn't one of Liverpools shining moments. It was a good goal though and I thought it was a good match....until the 2nd half. I hate bunker defense, It's crap! I didn't feel there was a need for it. Chelsea were not that good, even against 10 men.
As for champs League, I hope we get through the injuries and get there, 4th place would do that is if Chelski can hold on to 3rd in light of the way they've been playing lately.;)

Chelsea 10 shots on goal and 8 corners
Liverpool 4 shots on goal and 3 corners.
Only an american and baseball fan would post useless stats like this.
The only stat that counts is.
    Chelsea 0 Liverpool 1

Takes a tough man to wish our Justice Department up his own team's ass :) (Provided a Republican isn't President.) I'd rather deal with Putin.
