1-0 Man U, typical wayne rooney goal. quick one assist touch from spector's side, crossed to rooneys head, you cant stop that that was perfect

That was Spector's fault. He left the man wide open on the left flank for a quick and easy cross.

    Unbeatable. Perfect precision from United.

Spector partly at fault for this goal. Long ball hit to Valencia, Valencia one touches with a volley to Rooney backpost who heads it in. Spector allowed Valencia too much space allowing Valenica to easily one touch it.

He shouldn't have been closer to Valencia. There was nothing he could have done.

Oof, that was perfect. Valencia crosses the ball back into where all the defenders were coming from with one touch. Goes straight to Rooney's head, and it's in the back of the net.

    1-0 ManU

    this,

thats really, really grasping at straws. Sometimes theres such a thing as a perfectly orchestrated goal.

    That was it

Oh no? So instead of marking the winger, he should have been halfway between Berbatov (who was tightly marked by the CB) and Valencia..

The CB reacted a little late to Berbatov making a run, which did cause Spector to kind of hesitate. But still, this is partially on John.

Good to hear. If you watched the Everton game this weekend, you saw Valencia putting in cross after cross against Baines, the left back for Everton. And I think Baines is a decent LB.

If he had shifted over too far left, it would have opened the middle either for Valencia to slip in goalside or Gibson to slid in through the gap.

Spector not really at fault there. He was marking Rooney when the ball was passed over to Valencia, and he did his best to get back. If he hadn't been covering the forward it would have been just as likely ManU would have scored.

For Spector, that goal was pick your poison. That goal was coming one way or another. On a scale of 1-10 on level of blame, thats maybe a 3....guilt by association.

A lot happened in the time it took to type this one-handed post while eating my sandwich! Seems like Valencia pretty much invalidated it....

Stoppage time: Had a bit of difficulty with Valencia and I think he got away with a bit of a tug, but he won the ball and the ref said play on.

He wasn't marking anyone when that ball was hit. The Center Back had Berbatov marked, albeit he did react late to Berbatov. Spector was in between both Berbatov and Valencia. I see what Spector was thinking (covering for his CB who reacted late) but still the goal was scored because Valencia had all day to weight that pass.

The goal was scored because a well-oiled Manchester United is harder to stop than a freight-train, and it was a perfectly executed 1-2-3. Don't think any defense in the world would have stopped that goal.

During the interval the commentators sort of blamed Diamanti on the goal for failing to track Valencia, but for the most part they just attributed it to excellent play for Manchester United. They didn't mention Spector.

edit: although now during the 2nd half they're saying that Spector got "too tight" on the goal, a criticism they then repeated on a different Man U scoring opportunity.

On the goal, the RB had also been caught forward so Spector had to slip more centrally for the time being to help cover. It was a perfectly weighted ball to Valencia and Spector just couldn't get over in time. I don't think Spector did much wrong, just a brilliant goal, imo.

They might have been talking about how Spector was too tight on Valencia just now, when United nearly scored within 15 seconds of the half starting.

Was a great move by ManU, with a nice 1-2 from Rooney and Valencia. Spector let Valencia get around him, although he made up for it a minute or two later.
